Cell Phone Numbers Go Public this month

Freindly REMINDER .... All cell phone numbers are being released to telemarketing Companies and you will start to receive sales calls.

I just did mine on line and it was quick and easy...

YOU WILL BE CHARGED FOR THESE CALLS

To prevent this, call the following number from your cell phone:

1 866-580-3625 or 888-382-1222.

It is the National DO NOT CALL list. It will only take a minute of your time.

It blocks your number for five (5) years. You must call from the cell phone

Number you want to have blocked. You cannot call from a different phone number.

Or you can do it online at https://www.lnnte-dncl.gc.ca/
HELP OTHERS BY PASSING THIS ON TO ALL YOUR FRIENDS.. It takes about 20 seconds

Introduction of a National Do Not Call Law – echo 115

Effective date September 30, 2008

Description Beginning September 30, 2008, businesses who engage in telemarketing practices will be required to adhere to the national "Do Not Call" law, as mandated by the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC). The "Do Not Call" law stipulates that consumers can register any phone number on the Do Not Call List (DNCL) which will prevent telemarketers from contacting them for marketing purposes. Consumers will remain on this list for 3 years and must re-register once 3 years have passed if they wish to remain on the list.

There are 2 types of DNCLs, National and Internal.
1. National: Consumers can prevent telephone marketing calls from organizations where the consumer has NO relationship.
2. Internal: Consumers can add a telephone number(s) to an Internal DNCL where they may have a relationship with a company and express that they DO NOT wish to be marketed to by phone.

As a result of this new legislation, Bell is required to maintain internal DNCLs for clients who do not wish to be contacted by Bell. Individual lists will be maintained according to each line of business, which includes:
1. Bell Home phone & Internet,
2. Bell TV, and
3. Bell Mobility.

Clients who wish to be registered to the Bell Internal DNCL must contact 310-BELL.

Definitions of "Existing Business Relationship":
• The consumer has;
1. purchased, leased or rented services and/or products within an 18-month period preceding the date of the telemarketing telecommunication.
2. made an inquiry or application about a product and/or service within the 6-month period preceding the date of the telemarketing telecommunication.
3. a written contract that is either current or has expired within the 18-month period preceding the date of the telemarketing communication.

Do Not Call Law Penalties:
• Companies who fail to adhere to the Do Not Call law could receive penalties of up to $15,000 per telephone number on a telemarketing list found to be in violation and have their names published by the CRTC.
• All companies that market to consumers via the telephone will be required to comply with the new regulations, failure to do so may result in being charged the following;
o Corporations - up to $15,000 per offending call.
o Individuals - up to $1,500 per offending call.

Exemptions to the National Do Not Call List:
• There are some exemptions to the DNC law. The types of telemarketing communications that are permitted include:
1. calls made by or on behalf of charities registered under the Income Tax Act.
2. calls made to consumers with which the telemarketer (or its client) has a existing business relationship.
3. calls made for the purposes of elections, surveys and solicitations for newspaper subscriptions.
4. calls made to businesses.

Process Do Not Call List Registration:
• Canadian consumers can register any landline, fax or mobile phone number to the Canadian Do Not Call List to stop receiving calls from telemarketers.
• Consumers can register to the National and Bell Internal DNCL by phone, or online.
o To register for the National DNCL, contact one of the following:
• Phone: 1 866 580-3625
• Online: http://www.Innte-dncl.gc.ca/index-eng.html
o To register for the Bell Internal DNCL, contact:
• Phone: 310-BELL
• Once the client registers their telephone number(s) then the telemarketer will have 31 days to stop calling and must refrain from calling for a period of 3 years.

Procedure Note:
• Bell Sales Consultants are not permitted to call clients or potential clients to sell Bell products and/or services.
• Welcome Calls are permitted, however they cannot be used to sell further products and/or services.

Wish they had something like that here in SA. I am sick to death     of all the marketing calls to try and give me something I already have or do not want!

That's why I have a private phone number. No annoying telemarketing or survey calls since I have taken this decision 5 years ago.

I pay for this each months, but my peace had no price...

even private numbers can be picked up on a 'random drawing' through computers.

Ever picked a phone that had a call display of  '000-000-0000 ' ....    ???
My wife would say it was a call from heaven.,, LOL .., but no,  the call would have a a dead silence, as you have now just activated these computers by registering that you are indeed a 'live call' and someone picked up.
and sure enough within 20 minutes there would a telemarketer phoning on another number to sell  you something.
there are options such as *60  that can put that calling number into a database of 'selective call rejection service' and that number will now no  longer work., ...

BUT the point of my post was this is a call for CELL phone people to be aware of these calls.,
As there are times when you are expecting a call, and don't check the cell phone screen.,
or you have checked the screen and see that you don't want to answer, but you also don't want your phone to ring 4 times either...

In Canada we passed a law, as you can read on the web site, that this type of practice will no longer be tolerated.. I don't know about other countries ...

UK version here - both home and mobile phones can be registered.

I think the truly evil aspect to all of this is that we are charged for incoming calls.  To also be charged for these unwanted telemarketing calls is reprehensible.

Almost nothing  only 2$ by month, sure with Bell the price can go up anytime but it's certainly reasonable. The only desavantage is that your number isn't list anywhere anymore (Annual Bell Directory, Canada 411 and the 411 voice service), so you have to make sure to give it to your relatives and friends.
