| Posted: | | | | Here in Norway when "serious" sound and picture magazines test BD players, they also test how long loading time the disc/player has. They get minus points fr long loading time, which I concider bulls***. Anyone with their right mind knows that depends on whats encoded in the disc, we have BD releases in Norway that doesn't have Javamenues either. I personally don't care how long time it takes before you put the disc in the tray before the movie starts. If you're gonna spend 2 hours to watch a movie, you can also wait 40-60 seconds before it starts. Anyone else have tought about this? | | | "What's God?" | Posted: | | | | My Toshiba HD DVD player (equivalent to Blu-ray ) takes well over a minute for the 'tray' to open- once I hit the power button/open.., Why so long?? Nothing to do with the Hi-def Disc but the player is like a personal computer. and we all know how long that takes to powerup/or reboot and then go to desktop with all app's running and in place., also well over a minute. The disc itself when sitting inside the tray.. and 'ready to go'.. to me,, didn't seem any longer than a STD disc would take. | | | In the 60's, People took Acid to make the world Weird. | Posted: | | | | Also had a Toshiba HD-DVD player, and from power on to tray came out, it was a long time that I remember. But the loading time itself, was abit faster than BD. But BD and HD-DVD are two different systems though. | | | "What's God?" "You know when you want something really bad and you wish for it?, God's the guy that ignores you" -The Island, Steve Buscemi |

| Posted: | | | | I've only watched a couple dozen BDs on my PS3 but I must say I don't recall ever having to wait more than 10 seconds, most have been less than 5. |

It is faster on a PS3, but PS3 is a game consol, and therefore have more "power" than standalone BD players. SO I personally don't compare PS3 with a dedicated BD player, if you know what I mean | | | "What's God?" | Posted: | | | | My first Blu-ray player was fairly slow at loading but the others have been quicker. I don't particularly notice now. |

And yet again, it depends whats encoded to the disc, menus, etc. I tested 4 og my BD's from different companies, and on my Panasonic DMP-BD50 the average loading time from tray is closed to the movie starts, where you can press PLAY the first time (including skipping commercials etc) it took about 50-60 seconds. But again, I don't care if it takes 10 or 60 seconds before the movie starts | | | "What's God?" It's actually pretty fast to load. The only disc I had issue with and so did everyone else, is when Iron Man came out and needed to download the updates first, but that is very rare. | | | We're on a mission from God.

| Posted: | | | | It's just a bit of time... enough to empty the popcorn popper into a bowl, butter & salt it, and gather it & the Mexican Coke into the living room... and that's on a long-loading feature-heavy disc. | | | If it wasn't for bad taste, I wouldn't have no taste at all.

| Posted: | | | | I don't mind the load times. As Vibro notes, once I stick the disc in I go an prepare my popcorn and beverage of choice. What does annoy me, is a disc that does not go to a menu, but immediately starts the film. | | | No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever. I've never experienced a Blu-ray taking longer than 20 seconds to load on either of those, and both have the most current firmware. The LG drive is perhaps a little quicker since it has the full PC power behind it. | | | Corey |

| Posted: | | | | Of course they should test the loading times. If one player takes 30s and another takes 60s to load the same disc, then there is definitely room for improvement, which should be pointed out in a review. I'm glad someone is taking their task seriously enough to do the job right. True, but remember it's the disc content that determine how long loading time it is. If the "testers" have just ONE disc they use, it would be correct, but they never state what disc they use in those testing seanses, so I take those tests with a big load of salt. Again, some discs has Java menus, some don't (Nordisk Film i.e) and they load faster. | | | "What's God?" | Posted: | | | | Who cares and why should i. the answer seems obvious, if it concerns you try another deck, the load times are NOT uniform, based on equipment, and therefore of little value.
