Well, after about 2000 DVDs, I finally had one go bad on me.  Apollo 13 officially bit the dust.  I've been reading for over a year now how this title was starting to rot away on folks.  I even pulled my copy a year ago to check it.  Last year it was good, this year not so much.  Considering how infrequently this happens in DVD, I find it remarkable that I've been able to collect them for this long and only encounter it once.

Was it the old DTS edition? I have it but I haven't pulled it out in years... (I own the HD DVD now.)

No, it was the original Collector's Edition.  Universal reissued this in 2006.  I think I know why now.

According to his Online Collection it's the Collector's Edition released in 1998.

Beat me to the punch .

I own the 2-Disc Anniversary Edition released in 2005...still good .

The trick now will be to figure out how to replace this with the reissue and not get stuck with somebody else's dog copy.

Ditto, but I skipped the DVD and vent strait from LD to HD
Heard of it and seen it on old CD but never tought about this as a problem on DVD, ough time to check some of the first ones then, I would get very angry so maybe better to not know.
We are all at the same age, only at different time...

Too bad Universal doesn't have a replacement program such as Walt Disney does for their DVD's.
Companies should be held liable for defects.. But ,,  in their own defence they may question how this Disc was stored over the past ten years., Humidity? temperature??
In the 60's, People took Acid to make the world Weird. Now the World is weird and People take Prozac to make it Normal.

Oh, I'm not complaining.  In this particular case, whatever the defect is, it's reasonably well documented.  I became aware of a problem with this title well over a year ago through various DVD sites.  I'm just glad that I don't have to replace all my disks every 10 years.  To only have to deal with this one is pretty darn good.
