| Posted: | | | | Well, my collection has been seriously lacking in maintenence in a very long time (I blame my Second Life Addiction). I have sold off/given away a lot of my collection and haven't bothered to remove them from my list, nor have I even been adding any new additions. I have stacks and piles of un-categorized DVDs and my binders are in disaray! I am a mess and ashamed of myself! Please forgive me I have sinned! I know I am in for a lot of work to get myself together and organized again. Has anyone ever been in a similar position before in regards to their collections and does anyone have any helpful tips? I am just going to completely clear my collection out and re-enter everything. I haven't played with the newest version yet. Is there a way to wipe my whole list or do I still have to delete each entry one at a time? I am so overwhelmed heeeeelp! | | | My Myspace page |

Either way if you really want to wipe your DB, just create a New Default DB at your end (local) and if you want to wipe your online upload a blank local to the online.

| Posted: | | | | If you are going to wipe them all out, then it should be better to start of with a new database... top menu --> File - Open Database - New database. Or if you want to wipe out nearly all your profiles, use tags and then go to top menu --> Collection - Flagged - Remove from collection EDIT: snarbo types faster... | | | We are all at the same age, only at different time... | | | Last edited: by oleops |

| Posted: | | | | I have a relatively small collection ( under 700 titles) and yet I am constantly updating, improving, removing, deleting, adding to, and on the lookout for Invelos updates every day, . And If I miss a day,, that only means extra hours on my days off to catch up.. I don't know how these others on the boards here that have ten times more DVD's than I do how they ever manage.. maybe we should ask their wives., or husbands . | | | In the 60's, People took Acid to make the world Weird. | Posted: | | | | Maybe you want to invest $12 in a Cue Cat barcode scanner. I just picked one up on Amazon Marketplace and it works fine on my Desktop but it doesn't like my laptop. It's a modified USB version.

Dirk Oooo.. There's a good idea. I considered getting one when I was heavy in to my collection before but decided against it. It may come in very handy now though thanks! :-) | | | My Myspace page |

| Posted: | | | | Glad to help. I am taking care of my cd collection right now and that's what I bought it for. It took alittle time to get used to it but you can't beat it for $12.

| Posted: | | | | Another idea: Use the BulkEdit or UPC Import plugin to get a jump start. All you need is a simple list of either UPCs or Profile IDs (better if you have lots on non-US localities). Crank up your cuecat and just create the list in a text file. Then run one of those plugins and, in a matter of minutes, you will have a set of profiles that are just a "refresh" away from being complete. Depending on the speed of your connection, you could have a brand new database in just a few hours.
Then, rest for a day, then start entering the personal info. You might be able to use BulkEdit to even automate some of that, but not all.
Good luck. | | | Thanks for your support. Free Plugins available here. Advanced plugins available here. Hey, new product!!! BDPFrog. | | | Last edited: by mediadogg |

| Posted: | | | | Ah yes, this can happen to us all... but to get rid of and sell DVDs? Sacrilege I checked out Second Life, and it gave me the same vibe as WOW... something that would suck up pretty much all the spare time in my life, so I gave them both a miss LOL I toyed with the idea of a virtual life, and came to realise that doing things "virtually" is nowhere near as fun as doing things in real life... but that's just me I did read online however that Second Life is pretty much being abandoned by most people. Anyway... I think everyone has answered your question pretty well. All I'd do is simply grab the dvds and re-add them via UPC from scratch... shouldn't take you very long at all with under 300 dvds. |

| Posted: | | | | Obviously, as you add in DVDs, be systematic. Don't just pick one up from here, one from over there. Go through in a linear fashion as they appear on the shelf/in the pile. Work in blocks. You don't have to get it all in there in one go. By doing things in a linear fashion you can return to where you left off and be sure you've not missed anything. This is the approach I've intended to keep to with my books, though I sometimes break the rules because I spot a recurring author.
The best trick beyond this that I've found is that anything new goes in instantly. That way you don't fall behind. The worst thing that can happen is that you stay where you are. Try to stick to just getting the profiles in. Don't worry about checking accuracy, just get them in. Perhaps set up a tag system to mark those profiles that you want to edit later. For stuff that's not in the db already, just put in the bare minimum (UPC, title, locality) and tag it. If you upload there's a chance someone will fill that info in for you while you enter the rest of the stuff, and if not, you can go back to it later.
I hope there's at least one tip in the above that you find useful. R W0m | | | Adelaide Movie Buffs (info on special screenings, contests, bargains, etc. relevant to Adelaideans... and contests/bargains for other Aussies too!) |
