| | Posted: | | | | I'm sure i'm missing some but for me these are the most iconic of all Horror villians. For sheer appearance Nosferatu(played by Max Schreck) hands down. Unless you find clowns scary!(Pennywise) Hope the Friday the 13th remake doesn't disapoint!!  |

| | Posted: | | | | For iconic, I think I'd have to go with Dracula. He's practically become a synonym for vampires, and almost every vampire fiction refers to him. As for my favourite, I'd have to go with one not on the list: Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde. The transformation in the 1920s version was exceptional, and every time Mr. Hyde appears onscreen I get the shivers. I've not seen all the other incarnations, but the 1932 version is excellent, and the recent BBC re-imagining was brilliantly executed, and downright creepy. As for villainy, Spoiler: (Select to view)when he knocks down a child in the street, he goes back to jump up and down on his chest! I think that's hard to top. Frankenstein's monster is a hard one, because (in the novel at any rate), I felt a deep sympathy for him that made it difficult to consider him the villain, rather the victim. | | | | Adelaide Movie Buffs (info on special screenings, contests, bargains, etc. relevant to Adelaideans... and contests/bargains for other Aussies too!) |

| | Posted: | | | | I go with Frankenstein only because the makeup and Karloff totally defined that character in our popular culture. Of all the original Universal horror films, Frankenstein probably holds up the best. |

I also think Frankenstein probably holds up the best today, but as a child Dracula was always my favorite. | | Posted: | | | | I had to vote for Freddy Krueger. It was tough to choose, but the reason i did was all because of Robert Englund. It seems to me he really embraced being Freddy and wasn't worried about being typecast. In fact he has done alot of horror movies such as The Mangler, Phantom of the Opera(1989 version), and 2001 Maniacs among them. I might change my vote when they remake Nightmare on Elm street and have a different guy play Freddy. |

No other horror character has had as many movie appearances and updates as Dracula. To date, I think the definitive telling of the original Bram Stoker tale is the Gary Oldman version. His portrayal of the Count was chilling, creepy, and campy all at the same time, and for the first time the dark sensual side of Dracula was played to the hilt.
