| Posted: | | | | Big Brother is here. This is a photo from the 2009 Inauguration, in which you can see IN FOCUS the face of each individual in the crowd !!! You can scan, double click and zoom to any section of the crowd... wait a few seconds... and the focus adjusts. The picture was taken with a robotic camera at 1,474 megapixel. (295 times the standard 5 megapixel camera). Makes you wonder who's watching us right now! | | | Martin Zuidervliet

| Posted: | | | | That's pretty amazing! Panning and zooming are very snappy, too. P.S. It's good to see Clarence Thomas is over his insomnia. |

That's because it wasn't "taken with a robotic camera at 1,474 megapixels." It was taken with a 'Canon PowerShot G10 at 14.7 MP. This is a 'Gigapan', an image that is created by stitching multiple images together. What you are seeing, is one of the known stitching errors in the image. If you click on the 'Exit full screen' link, you will get the authors explanation... "I made this Gigapan image from the north press platform during President Obama's inaugural address at the U.S. Capitol in Washington, DC on January 20, 2009. It's made up of 220 images and the final image size is 59,783 X 24,658 pixels or 1,474 megapixels." | | | No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever. That robotic camera is pretty damn spiffy! Just so nobody get's confused, it isn't a robotic camera. It is a robotic camera mount called 'The GigaPan Epic," which retails for $379. From the site: The GigaPan Epic makes it easy to capture incredibly detailed images and works seamlessly with the GigaPan Stitcher and GigaPan.org. The Epic allows your camera to take tens, hundreds, or even thousands of photos. These images are combined into a single gigapixel panorama by the GigaPan Stitcher. You can then view, share, and explore the incredible detail of your panoramas at GigaPan.org. | | | No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever. A unique robotic camera mount, the GigaPan Epic works with most point and shoot cameras to create multi-gigapixel panoramas.
The GigaPan Epic makes it easy to capture incredibly detailed images and works seamlessly with the GigaPan Stitcher and GigaPan.org. The Epic allows your camera to take tens, hundreds, or even thousands of photos. These images are combined into a single gigapixel panorama by the GigaPan Stitcher. You can then view, share, and explore the incredible detail of your panoramas at GigaPan.org.
Simply attach your camera to it, then the Epic directs you through the steps to capture a gigapixel image. You set the upper left and lower right corners of your panorama, then the Epic works out how many photos your camera will need to take, hundreds or even thousands, and automatically organizes them into the correct rows and columns needed to capture you panorama. The robotic arm clicks away, capturing amazing detail in a short amount of time.
It's basically just a remote controlled motorized camera mount that will pan and shoot in programed steps. Neat, but not really a "robot camera" |

| Posted: | | | | Having only recently given up my old Canon A1 for a digital 450D, I've just started experimenting with pano shots & stitching them together in Photoshop, and I'm totally hooked. I satarted with some hand-held try-outs from The Grand & Bryce Canyons last August, and was pretty pleased with them. I got a Manfrotto pano head & tripod for Xmas. I've not had much opportunity to try it out, but Madame Mole & I are going to Bath (Somerset, UK) for our 25th anniversary in a couple of weeks. Bath is an incredibly photogenic place......so I don't know what Sue thinks we'll be doing on our weekend away from kids, cats, DIY, etc., etc....but I've got an 8GB memory card to fill up! | | | Chris | | | Last edited: by Mole |

Photo & Stitch example And a unit capable of handling a DSLR appears to be in the pipeline as well... now that would be cool | | | Chris |
