| Posted: | | | | Sorry for the initial twinge of excitement some of you may have felt when seeing the title of this thread. This isn't meant to state when it will be available but to gather when YOU think it'll be available.
(This isn't for reprints and may be missing years)
Releases & re-releases Laserdisc: 1989, 1993, 1995, 1997 VHS: 1985, 1991, 1994, 1995, 1997 DVD: 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008
The DVD release came out seven years after DVD's started to become popular and rental stores started to carry a small selection, long after DVD's had secured their dominance over VHS.
Now Blu-Ray is on year 2 of their dominance. How long do you think it'll take until Star Wars is released on Blu-Ray?
John Singh, spokesperson for Lucasfilm, has denied there are any plans. He was quoted as saying "Lucasfilm Ltd. has no plans to release any of the Star Wars movies on Blu-ray. Listings on Amazon.com or any other Web site are purely speculative and erroneous." |

| Posted: | | | | I'm actually surprised Lucas isn't hurrying to launch Star Wars on Blu-ray. If done correctly, with nicely (re)mastered video and audio and good extras thrown in, it could turn out to be one hell of a Blu-ray box.
My guess is, Lucas will wait until Blu-ray reaches an even bigger install base and has overtaken DVD. If he releases the movies then, he'll have more potential buyers right out of the door and near the complete dominance of Blu-ray, he can re-release them for even more profit. That's my guess at least ... I wish he would think a bit more of the fans and a bit less about maximizing profits. | | | Blu-ray collection DVD collection My Games My Trophies |

| Posted: | | | | Is it just me who think they'll start with Episode I-III? Actually, I'm surprised we didn't get Phantom Menace this year since it's the 10 year anniversary, but maybe they want to forget it exists... My guess is we'll get Episode IV-VI in time for the 35th anniversary. Lucasfilm better hurry up though because I don't trust the longevity of the Blu-ray format or any disc format beyond a couple of years. Most people will inevitably move to downloads instead but I think die-hard collectors will still buy discs. | | | First registered: February 15, 2002 |

I'll buy I-III when they digitally enhance them to remove Jar Jar Binks! Quote:

I've been speaking to several people recently about downloads Vs physical media and they all said that they'll stick with physical media. Too much can go wrong as far as downloads are concerned, plus the high speed capabilities over here are years behind quite a few other countries. As for when any Star Wars will be released on Blu, I think by the end of 2012 we'll be seeing them. |

| Posted: | | | | The overall quality of downloadable versions is a lot less than hard media due to higher compression to get the download "down to size". |

| Posted: | | | | Most people don't notice or care since they are used to watching compressed 720p or, if they're lucky, 1080i HDTV broadcasts, or even upconverted SD. | | | First registered: February 15, 2002 |
