| Posted: | | | | Does anyone know if the 2-disc BD Benelux edition of the da vinci code contains English True HD audio? The cover does mention English True HD but I read on many forums that this edition only contains a 5.1 Dolby Digital, as well this is mentioned at the BD profile of this movie. | | | Last edited: by jurgen42u |

| Posted: | | | | Only the French soundtrack is True HD. This is the reply Sony gave me:
Do you believe it? The same happened in the past with DTS audio tracks on DVD's. French DTS audio track and an English Dolby track (Schindler's List, Tron etc.). |

Sadly, when you purchase the rights to a movie, you also have to purchase rights for all the languages/subtitles you wish to add. So, this isn't done very often on UK DVD's. For French movies, it's often worse. The French acquire the rights, including those for the Dutch subtitles, since it's probably cheaper to purchase a bunch of languages in bundle. They then release the DVD without Dutch subtitles, making it impossible for other companies to release a DVD for the Dutch and Flemish market Try to find a dutch release for "Haute Tension" or "Frontières". The only alternative is buying UK releases, at least they have English subtitles. And like you said, the French favour dubbed audio tracks leaving no room for the High Quality original audio. | | | View my collection at http://www.chriskepolis.be/home/dvd.htm

| Posted: | | | | Quoting cvermeylen: Quote: We would be so much better of with being combined with the UK market in stead of the French market. True, very true. I've noticed the UK gets some decent Blu-ray releases, some even better then the US release of a movie (the Terminator franchise comes to mind). In general, I buy my Blu-rays in these markets (I have a region A player even though I live in Belgium) : - US: 75% - UK (region free discs) : 20% - Japan: 5% I've yet to buy a single Belgian or French disc. The fact that we don't need Dutch subtitles in our household definitely opens up more possibilities. I'm getting the feeling this is the same damn problem all over again. Back in the VHS and DVD days, a lot of Belgian (Flemish) releases were held back because the French dubbing wasn't ready yet, even though the Flemish part only uses (Dutch) subtitles. The same would sometime be true even for theatrical releases. Sucks, doesn't it? | | | Blu-ray collection DVD collection My Games My Trophies | | | Last edited: by Taro |

| Posted: | | | | Of what I understand here is that Sony isn't going to plan a re-release with an English True HD track. I'm now doubting to return this disc to Sony as I truly want a True HD Track on the Blu-ray's I bought. That's the reason why it is Blu-ray and not an up-to-grade-SQ DVD.
Thanks for the help everyone. |
