| Posted: | | | | So far I have everthing on the new AFI top 100. For the old top 100 I need twelve more: Doctor Zhivgo, All Ouit On The Western Front, The Third Man, Fantasia, Stagecoach, The Manchurian Canidate, An American In Paris, Wuthering Heights, Giant, The Jazz Singer, A Place In The Sun and Guess Who Is Coming To Dinner. For Best picture winners I need sixteen more: All Ouit On The Western Front, Grand Hotel, Cavalcade, You Can't Take It With You, Mrs.Minver, The Lost Weekend, Hamlet, All The Kings's Men, An American In Paris, The Greatest Show On Earth, Marty, Around The World In 80 Days, Gigi, Tom Jones, A Man For All Seasons and Oliver!. I ordered six of the movies I needed yesterday. Does anybody else collect movies from a list or a certain criterion like this? If so I would like to know what it is. I have a lot of fun doing this. What are the collections that you collect? |

| Posted: | | | | Yeah, I'll admit it, I collect toplists too. I know I won't like everything but I also know I'll always discover interesting films I've never seen before. Not necessarily the AFI lists though as they feature very well known things. There are other lists out there with a far greater variety that really can help extending your knowledge and appreciation of film. | | | - Jan |

| Posted: | | | | Of AFI's varied top 100 lists, I'm missing 8 - 6 of which are on DVD (Birth of a Nation, City Lights, The Gold Rush, Intolerance, Modern Times, and Network), 1 of which is available in a box set I think (Duck Soup), and the last is not yet available on DVD in R1 (The African Queen).
Best picture winners, I still need 10 - 7 of which are readily available (The Life of Emile Zola, Going My Way, The Lost Weekend, Marty, Around the World in Eighty Days, Oliver!, and Kramer vs. Kramer) and 3 of which I think are out of print (Wings, Cavalcade, and Tom Jones).
I also collect Criterion. I have around 180 of them, and need therefore somewhere around 320 or so.
Sometime I also intend to work on Time's top 100 list. Sometime... | | | If more of us valued food and cheer and song above hoarded gold, it would be a merrier world. -- Thorin Oakenshield | | | Last edited: by Danae Cassandra |

| Posted: | | | | If Buster Keaton is in it, I want it.
Other than that, I've given up getting "impotant" films -- I now look for films I'd like to see more than once, especially films which make me smile. | | | If it wasn't for bad taste, I wouldn't have no taste at all.

| Posted: | | | | Alas, Cavalcade and Wings are still not on DVD in Region 1, anyway. Supposedly Cavalcade is coming next year but I'll believe it when I see it. TCM runs Wings regularly, so I have a DVD-R of it off that but it'd be nice to have an official release. But all the other Best Picture Winners have been released in R1 at one time or another. | | | "This movie has warped my fragile little mind." |

| Posted: | | | | If you like Buster, you must have The General on Blu-ray, great transfer. The extras reminded me of my days working for the ATSF repairing choo-choo-trains. Do you know that the coupling has to be 34 inches above the track. I got the complete Buster Keaton on laser disc. What has to impress anybody about Keaton are his stunts, no special effects, he worked them out and preformed them himself. I recently viewed the African Queen on laser when I signed Amazon's notify list. Got Wings on laser, also.
I too used to check out the lists, but now it's mostly what I think I'll like.
I do try to collect film noir, musical, mysteries and some older TV series. I'd say that I have most best lists of or Oscar winners. | | | We don't need stinkin' IMDB's errors, we make our own. | Posted: | | | | I really do not mind getting the DVDs from other regions if I have to. As long as they are offical copies. |

| Posted: | | | | While I do reference top 100 or top 250 lists, I don't buy exclusively those on the lists. In fact most of my collection is "off beat"or below radar screen. Many very fine films are available which do not make these lists. Now there is an idea....How about a thread which reads, "my favorite film not listed on IMDB's top 250?"
oops, back on subject: recently I've purchased HBO films because many of these films seem relavant to me (such as Miss Evers Boys), anything with Clint Eastwood, and Star Trek related. |

I Know what you mean with the Star Trek. I have already completed that collection and have a lot of them to watch. |

Yes, I have it, and you are correct. So, GSN has started showing 1952 episodes of "I've Got a Secret" at 12:30 am PST again (my DVR hunts for it and "What's My Line") starting Monday night/Tuesday morning. And the guest is Keaton! Gotta transfer that to DVD+R. | | | If it wasn't for bad taste, I wouldn't have no taste at all.
