Alphabetical by case type using home made shelving. Doesn't get simpler than that

2 seperate sections:
Movies (including animation)
TV-series (including animation)

Within those two sections, I organize alphabetically.
Blu-ray collection
DVD collection
My Games
My Trophies

I have 4 sections...
1. Movies
2. TV Series/TV Movies/TV Miniseries
3. Movie Serials (Old Time Chapter serials)
4. Unwatched

Sections 1-3 are in alphabetical order... and section 4 is basically no order... I just put them on the shelf where ever there is room when I get them.

I have 3 sections, all on wooden bookshelves with glass door inserts:

  • Movies on DVD - sorted alpha by title.

  • TV on DVD - sorted alpha by title.

  • Blu-ray discs - sorted alpha by title.

  • I see no need to complicate it any more than that.
No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever.
There is no greater power in the universe than the need for freedom.
Against this power, governments and tyrants and armies cannot stand.

    1) My Kid's (in his room) - Organized by his own incomprehensible method
    2) Mine, but my Kid's allowed to watch (in the hallway) - Alphabetical
    3) Mine, my Kid's not allowed to watch (in my bedroom) - Alphabetical
    4) Unwatched - No particular order

(in each of the above, DVD and VHS are mixed)

I use several bookcases as I don't have room for a more comprehensive system. However, within that I try to keep it organized in 3 sections: Unwatched, TV and everything else.  Within each section, they're alphabetized, though the unwatched is in whatever order they fall in.

There are a couple exceptions to the alphabetized rule...all my James Bond movies are together, though I use their own title in Profiler, things like that.

Haven't found many movie enthusiasts in the RI area, most people I run into claim to have a "huge" collection, which to them is only about 500 or so....rookies. and true move fanatics don't measure their screen size in inches, we measure in feet. still touching up the basement here and there, never gonna be done with that. working on finishing the den at the moment than moving back into the basement for round 46. how's your room moving along? any ideas I can shoot your way? I have a 1956 popcorn machine, still works, that I may be willing to part with, no more room for that kind of stuff, and would like to part with it to another movie fanatic, will take a reasonable offer, or you can pay me with DVD's....
