Today George Michael passed away, george was the lat true giant journalist in Sports Broadcasting market, he joined NBC 4 in DC in I believe 1980, and had a nationally syndicated sports show; "The Sports Machine. George was 70 years old and will be greatly missed by all who were familiar with his work, ot those of us who may have been fortunate enough to know him. Glenn brenner and Jack kent Cooke will no doubt both be glad to share his company again. So long, George

R.I.P.

I saw a few episodes of Sports Machine (after noticing it wasn't the other George Michael ), but it wasn't on my list to watch each week since ESPN dominated the sports news landscape.

"Welcome to the Sports Machine!" (or was it "Here's what's on the Sports Machine!")  Then he'd press the giant button to bring up the highlights.  I miss those shows.  Just highlights, no banter, like it should be.  I grew up without cable, so his highlights were it.  Good times...  R.I.P.  George.
My one wish for the DVD Profiler online database: Ban or remove the disc-level profiles of TV season sets. It completely screws up/inflates the CLT.
FACT: Imdb is WRONG 70% of the time! Misspelled cast, incomplete cast, wrong cast/crew roles. So for those who want DVD Profiler to be "as perfect as Imdb", good luck with that.
Stop adding UNIT crew! They're invalid credits. Stop it!

If you want to learn more about george, they have quite a memorial setup at NBC4.com, be ready to laugh. Geprge was ESPN before there was an ESPN.

Well, this is a downer for the DC area.  Although I didn't watch him much while moving down here in 96, I know he's iconic in the region.

There is a story the he was tabbed to call the USA-USSR hockey game in Lake Placid in 1980.  Something got messed up, and the play-by-lay went to a young Al Michaels, who made his famous "Do you believe in miracles?" call, and shot to play-by-play stardom.
