I was just curious if any of the users have this problem: i am addicted to buying dvd's! i find myself buying dvd's i dont even like just so i can add them to my collection. i even set up a tag- craptastic: why do i own this- just to seperate movies that i dont like. i really like to hit up the Big Lots in town and purchase some movies. then add a stack to my collection. is this normal. i remember as a child buying baseball cards on a regular basis(i had a paper route). I am around 1300 dvd/blurays now and i can never find anything i want to watch!!

I do the same thing except I usally have a reason for buying what I buy.  I fsmething is on sale or I see something at a dollar store I will make a blind buy.  I try to buy things I like or I am lacking in my collection.  I used to buy things because I did not have enough of a given genres or to complete a list.  I am going to order a Danish movie because I do not have any.

You have described me almost perfectly, brimac!  I pick up A LOT of things blind, generally either because it sounds like it will be good or I know something about it that makes me think I shall enjoy it.  If I'm at Big Lots I'll pick up just about anything made 1960s or prior that turns up in their bins, or if I'm at my shop anything that sounds even remotely interesting and makes it into our cheap section.  I won't keep it if it's a stinker (I'll trade it for another at my shop), but I haven't found a lot of those.  I seem to have good luck picking out things that I'll enjoy at some level.

However, I can always find something I want to watch!  I've found the trick for me is to pick a theme for the month (this month was obviously Christmas movies, but next month shall be comedy), and thereby limit the choices.  Too many choices = indecision.  But placing limits = making decisions!  (This being able to find something might be helped along by the fact that I have no TV channels, so if I'm going to watch something it's going to be DVD)
If more of us valued food and cheer and song above hoarded gold, it would be a merrier world.

I wouldn't say that I buy movies that I don't like, but I do buy quite a lot of blind buys that, for whatever reason, I really don't feel like watching most of the time. It's not that I don't like them (I've never seen them), but it seems like quite often that I choose to rewatch an old favorite rather than take a chance on one of my blind buys. I've had pretty good luck with most of my blind buys, enjoying most of those that I have watched, so I'm not sure why I avoid them so much.

But I just love to buy DVD's, especially when I can get them for $3-$5 each in places like Big Lots or Walmart. So I seem to accumulate titles much faster than I actually watch them.

Bottom line....we are all SICK.                   Nobody has bothered to notify the CDC yet, but then again I don't believe I have heard of any fatalities due to the DVD Virus. There is no vaccine and no protection, you will be assimilated....we will add your distinctiveness to our own.

I am totally addicted to buying dvd's and blurays. I also love adding dvd's to profiler and updating my database. I have a few weeks off work over xmas and the new year, what do I plan on doing - updating my database and watching some of my unwatched dvd's, sounds boring to most but I cant wait!!

I think I'm more addicted to movies than to DVDs. I cannot imagine not have seen a DVD/blu ray in the very few days after I bought it. That is also probably why I have a small collection (1050 movies) (but my wife doesn't find it small... ). Thanks to Ken for having given us this marvellous movieprofiler to collect them.

Disturbing, probably, but I agree it has really to be seen...
