2010 - 39 visits. Another decrease in theater visits.
Januari: 22/01 - Sherlock Holmes - Good performance by the three leads. The movie had it's moments, but it wasn't consitently good.
Februari: 12/02 - Valentine's Day - Romantic comedy with an impressive cast list. And here lies the problem. This movie has so many characters, it takes almost half an hour to introduce everyone. While it's not bad, this movie would have been better if a few story lines were dropped. 27/02 - From Paris with Love - An assistant of the US ambassador in Paris wants to be a secret agent. He gets a job assisting an agent working to stop a terrorist attack. Fast paced, enjoyable action movie. Another great performance by Travolta.
April: 02/04 - Did You Hear About the Morgans? - Romantic Comedy about a separated couple. They both witness a murder and are relocated in a witness protection program. A very entertaining no-brainer with good chemistry between both leads, Hugh Grant and Sarah Jessica Parker. 03/04 - Alice in Wonderland (3D) - Tim Burton take on the Alice in Wonderland story. Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter are performing great, but I didn't care much for the movie as a whole. I also found this was the crappiest 3D I have ever seen. The 3D effect in a lot of scenes, was generated by making the actors look real sharp and the background so out of focus, you could hardly recognize what was there.
28th Brussels International Fantastic Film Festival 09/04 - George A. Romero's Survival of the Dead - I liked this better than the previous Diary of the Dead. This time, the setting is an island. There's a dispute between two families, and one of them gets exciled. He takes revenge by sending other survivors to the island. This one also displayed quite a few very original Zombie killings. Keep going George! 10/04 - Pontypool - A DJ, his producer and his technician are working at the radiostation when strange reports are coming about riots in town. A dreadful zombie story. 10/04 - Solomon Kane - Once a fierce treasure hunter that sold his soul to the devil, Solomon Kane now spends his time in a monastary. When an evil sorcerer comes into play, Solomon Kane must pick up his sword again, risking to lose his soul. Well crafted movie, but all in all it never rises above mediocrity. 12/04 - Giallo - When a beautiful woman disappears, her sister and a police detective team up to find her. They discover she is kidnapped by a serial killer. This one was quite ok. 13/04 - Rampage - A guy builds a kevlar bodyarmour and goes on a killing spree across his hometown. I liked the movie but hated the shaky camera work. Even in simple dialogue scenes, the camera was hardly steady for 2 seconds. 15/04 - Orphan - A couple adopts a girl after their third child is stilborn. The girl is not as sweet as she first appears. This could have been a good movie, but it was 15-20 minutes too long. 16/04 - The Killer Inside Me - A deputy in a small town is asked to chase a prostitute out of town. He gets involved with her, but after a while he wants to get rid of her. He conceives a plan to kill her and blame a rich kid. To hide his tracks he has to kill more and more. I was so glad when this was over. 17/04 - The Crazies - A toxic spill in a quiet town causes the people to become crazy murderers. Not bad, but the movie lost it's pace occasionally.
May: 02/05 - Clash of the Titans - Remake of the classical mythological tale. I like this one, it had a good pace and running time. Good performances, good effects. 07/05 - Iron Man 2 - First half of the movie seemed rather incoherent, the movie picks up in the second half. The after credit pitch of part 1, was sadly unused. All in all a missed opportunity. 14/05 - Robin Hood - A less romanticized and more brutal version of the Robin Hood story. It was interesting to see the story told this way, although the movie had its ups and downs. Undoubtably, a longer version will be released on DVD, which may have it all fall into place. 22/05 - A Nightmare on Elm Street - A very decent remake. It's not a shot by shot remake. It never gets boring, you get more information on the origin story of Freddy, and it has the necessary suspense. 28/05 - Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time - Based on the video game, and while I don't know the game, it was easy to see they must have taken some of the moves directly from the game. All in all, good clean fun.
June: 20/06 - The A-Team - The movie is off to an incredible start. After 2/3rd of the movie, it starts to wear down. All in all, not the worst attempt to revive a TV Series in the cinema.
July: 09/07 - The Twilight Saga: Eclipse - If you like the first two parts, you will like this one as well. 16/07 - Killers - A Professional hitman gives up his job when he meets the love of his live in Nice, France. Romantic comedy with a high dose of action. An entertaining nobrainer. 30/07 - The Karate Kid - The Karate Kid[/i][/b] - Remake of an 80s movie I really adored. At first I was sceptical at the casting of Will Smith's son, but it actually works quite well. Not a shot by shot remake, but the best known scenes are adapted to the new story. The fight scenes are much more brutal though. 31/07 - Knight and Day - Mediocre action flick
August: 06/08 - Salt - I had expected more of this movie, and I really found parts of the story completely unbelievable. 13/08 - The Sorcerer's Apprentice - Morgana kills Merlin, then get's trapped inside a bottle. A sorcerer goes on a quest to find the one who can defeat Morgana. Started of quite well, but the movie got a dip in the middle. 20/08 - The Expendables - A bunch of mercenaries try to free a small island from the terror of a drug lord. Stallone rounded up a great cast for an action packed fun ride. Schwarzenegger's cameo was hilarious.
September: 10/09 - Piranha - Entertaining movie that doesn't get boring. It does fail in a few departments however. I wasn't too convinced by the 3D. The movie lacked sharpness in much scenes. And in quite a few of the Piranha attack scenes I didn't see the piranhas. The movie scores well in the T&A department on the other hand. 25/09 - The Switch - Woman wants to get pregnant and selects a man to be the donor. Her best friend accidentally switches the sperm. Mediocre romantic comedy
October: 09/10 - Resident Evil: Afterlife - Alice teams up with a group of survivors in search of a safe haven called arcadia. Another good sequel in the Resident Evil series. 16/10 - The Disappearance of Alice Creed - A rather brutal kidnapping story. Gemma Artherton has to endure quite a lot in this movie. 29/10 - The Social Network - How facebook came to be, and all the legal issues surrounding it. I liked it, but I'm not sure it will appeal to non-facebook users.
November: 12/11 - Unstoppable - A runaway train containing dangerous chemicals and fuel is certain to explode in a highly populated area if it can't be stopped in time. If you are in to disaster movies, this one is not to be missed. 13/11 - Zot van A. - A group of people and their romantic interactions are followed during period of Saint Nicholas celebrations. A rather mediocre romantic comedy 19/11 - Buried - A guy wakes up and discovers he is buried alive. Very suspenseful.
December: 03/12 - Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 - I'm not convinced it was a wise decision to split the last book into 2 movies. Although it wasn't bad, the pace was rather slow. 17/12 - Frits en Freddy - 2 bible salesmen use their profession to check out the homes to rob them later. They make the mistake of trying to rob the house of a money laundering gangster. Funny, entertaining Belgian movie. International viewers won't be able to enjoy the dialect fun though. 28/12 - Saw 3D - The final chapter in the Saw series was somewhat disappointing. The final clue didn't convince me. The movie was shot in 3D, not an upconversion. It didn't do much for the movie though. The 3D looked good, but didn't add much to the movie. | | | View my collection at http://www.chriskepolis.be/home/dvd.htm
