| Posted: | | | | I suspect that few of Ken's users ever make it to this forum, and that's too bad, because of the greater use of the software that they'd enjoy and the wealth of DVD knowledge available here.
Respecting privacy concerns, I'd love to see a mechanism developed where I could send a blind invitation to software users / movie buffs in my vicinity, similar to a friend invitation in a forum, giving them the opportunity to "check me out" and identify themselves and accept or decline depending on their preference.
I imagine it would be possible to set a software flag deflecting all such inquiries. Email addresses are provided at time of purchase, but for unregistered users, I don't know if any email info is exchanged at any other time.
If the user set a flag permitting inquiries, I suppose they could choose to either provide email info at that time, of the invites could even come piggy-backed on profile refreshes. Just thinking out loud here.
The possibilities springing from creating local networks of users are endless. If someone lived around the corner from me and needed help trying the software, I'd be only too glad to show them what I'd learned (making sure to pimp the registered user benefits, of course).
I know that many people would recoil from any aspect of this idea, but that's what opting out is for. The potential for increased registrations / participation / enhanced use for the software are too much for me not to consider just because I'm scared of my shadow.
Of course, it's always possible that Ken has more customers / users than he knows how to deal with already ... |

| Posted: | | | | I like the idea. Having moved over 150 miles from where I grew up a few years back I'm kind of a 'billy-no-mates' at the moment. Work is non-existant and we don't have the money to socialise (at least not if we want to continue buying DVD/BDs). So...knowing that someone near me uses Profiler would be a great way to potentially make friends with similar interests (and if that someone also like musicals and board games I'd be in hog-heaven!) So a big from me! | | | Last edited: by Pantheon |

| Posted: | | | | OK, now I get it... I guess. I like the idea! And a map could be integrated in the website, too.
But that would require a filled location field in one's user profile settings. And people who don't participate in the forums most likely haven't specified that info...
IP geo location could be used for automation. But that has to be implemented as an opt-in feature! Big Brother revisited... | | | 1.0.1, iPhone 3GS, iOS 4.1.0

I thought about that too, and opt-in / opt-out wouldn't matter for me, just so it was going in one fashion or another. Also: Loved "In July". Most definitely going to add it to my collection if ever I can catch it for under $10 ... |

| Posted: | | | | I've often wondered about having some sort of 'Movie night' between most of here , where we'd get to vote on a movie to view,, together, at the same time and minute, and then we could blog each here in live time to comment on scenes and our favourite moments as they happen live ..
Now that would be a hoot... | | | In the 60's, People took Acid to make the world Weird. Now the World is weird and People take Prozac to make it Normal.

You know that windows does have remote assistance where you can send your request to another he/she then accepts your invitation and is then able to get onto your desktop visually and remotely using the mouse and you could navigate and guide him Thru your remote instructional tutorial.. and vice versa .. | | | In the 60's, People took Acid to make the world Weird. | Posted: | | | | I think this would be a great idea. Something simple like adding a zip code you your profile and then asking "would you like to share this info?" etc.
I'm relatively new to this software (this is my first post to the forum) and I'm still not sure of all the things the software is capable of. I LOVE it, though.

The most merciful thing in the world, I think, is the inability of the human mind to correlate all its contents. ... The piecing together of dissociated knowledge will open up such terrifying vistas of reality, and of our frightful position therein, that we shall either go mad from the revelation or flee from the light into the peace and safety of a new dark age. ~ Howard Phillips Lovecraft | | | Last edited: by jimbow8 |
