| Posted: | | | | "The Afterman" is a Belgian cult movie released 25 years ago. It's about a guy who lived alone in an atomic fallout shelter after the A-Bomb was dropped, so he can't read, write or speak. 20 years later, the shelter opens and he wanders into a barbaric world. This was a low-budget controversial movie. It was rather violent, contained slavery, cannibalism and a lot of nude. The DVD was released in the presence of the director and main actor on the 28th Brussels International Fantastic Film Festival. It's non-anamorphic, and the print has a bit of damage and washed colors, but still it was an interesting viewing. It's released region-free, and has no subtitles, since there wasn't any dialogue. It does have very nice artwork, and should be in a few shops as of mid next month. | | | View my collection at http://www.chriskepolis.be/home/dvd.htm

This is indeed a Belgian release, but since it has no dialogue and it's region free, anyone can understand it I don't claim it's a good movie, but it was interesting view anyway. It will be distributed by www.freerecordshop.be as of next month, but sadly there webshop is only in dutch and french. You need to be able to playback PAL though. If anyone should be interested in this movie, I know the distributor. I can see if other methods of purchase will be provided. | | | View my collection at http://www.chriskepolis.be/home/dvd.htm

The no dialogue can indeed make it a strange experience to watch. I managed to find 1 scene on youtube: | | | View my collection at http://www.chriskepolis.be/home/dvd.htm

Luc Besson's first film Le Dernier Combat ("The Last Battle") has only one word of dialog, maybe two. It's still a great film though. If only the "no dialog" is holding you back, then I would encourage you to give it a try. | | | Achim [諾亞信; Ya-Shin//Nuo], a German in Taiwan. Registered: May 29, 2000 (at InterVocative) |

| Posted: | | | | Talking about movies on DVD from Belgium: Scoring extremely high on Rotten Tomatoes are "Moscow Belgium" (Aanrijding in Moscou), Flemish spoken and the impressive Lorna's Silence (Le silence de Lorna). I saw the last (the other is on my wishlist). Both can be ordered from the Amazon.com site (for a few bucks if you wish). Both were released last January. | | | Last edited: by railroaded |

Don't know if they're available in R1-land, but I really liked Soeur Sourire (Sister Smile) and Aaltra (hilarious black comedy/roadmovie à la Kaurismäki). And in my ''to-watch"-pile I still have this dvd with the intriguing title "SM-Rechter" (SM-Judge).... Quite curious about Afterman, though! It's only 12.50 at frs.be, so I might give it a try. |

You will be able to pick it up in the store as well I believe. SM-Rechter is a really good movie. | | | View my collection at http://www.chriskepolis.be/home/dvd.htm
