| Posted: | | | | As you have been following my posts over the years of my Granddaughter and her use of Windex, .. Disneyland, the usefullness of movie genres etc . She is to start Grade 2 this September, and with Summer here she is watching her videos but isn't getting the full use out of the vast library of movies I have put together with her in mind.., SO yesterday I decided to add something to her own desktop page...... A profiler Icon renamed Alexandra's Movies .. I took my library of 1500 titles and throughly did two backups., then I flagged them all -Unnested the titles that were-.. and then systematically deleted all the titles that I wouldn't want her to watch, and titles that I knew would be of little interest to her., and then that left me with 340 titles for her.. I then backed that up to a new name backup., logged into her desktop and created a new DVDprofiler program that is empty. Then restored the backup for her, gave the layout a nice look with thumbnail cover art.. Saved it backed it up., then logged back to my page , and restored my titles back to what it was.. I then had her sit down and I showed her with her keystrokes how to get to the profiler on her desktop and the neat little short cuts and things for her to look for, such as Locaiton for said title. She only had crayola sites and the odd Justin Beiber and Aquamarine type Youtube sites.. I now have her on her way to being a DVDprofiler addict ...... and no she won't be adding any new titles herself until maybe next year ..... | | | In the 60's, People took Acid to make the world Weird. | Posted: | | | | You might have achieved the same thing by using the sharing-tool in combination with parental control settings. Except that your granddaughter might have messed up your database then. And, by what we know from her, she would have. (I'm still grinning, when I think about her cleaning attempts on your screen) | | | It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up! But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?

| Posted: | | | | update to my thread .. Not only do these exercises tutor her to use the 'exact' keystrokes to "get around the menu",, but it forces her to read, and discover new attributes for the program .. i.e. she has discovered that if a favorite movie star of hers (such as Sarah Paxton)., can be found in the datbase ., As it turns out we have another Sarah Paxton (same but 13 years ago) in the movie Liar Liar with Jim Carrey as a child at the Birthday party .. "Wow" she says "this is great!" . .and off she goes on the keyboard typing in names of movies and checking the cast list for secret titles.. to discover all the important links that had evaded her before Now I can't get her off now- to watch the videos in another room..... | | | In the 60's, People took Acid to make the world Weird. Couldn't this be considered a form of child abuse? | | | No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever. There is no greater power in the universe than the need for freedom. Against this power, governments and tyrants and armies cannot stand. The Centauri learned this lesson once. We will teach it to them again. Though it take a thousand years, we will be free. - Citizen G'Kar |
