When did you start collecting DVDs?
How old were you?
What was the fist DVD you ever owned?

Was there ever a time that you grew tired of collecting and considered stopping?

I started collecting DVDs back in 2001, the day of my 17th birthday. My first DVD was a 2 disc set of Gladiator. The first DVD I purchased was U-571.

During 2008 would have been a low point. I hardly purchased any DVDs that year and lost a great deal of interest in just about everything due to personal problems.

I grabbed about 6 titles when I got my first DVD... can't remember all (didn't have anything to keep track at the time) But I know 2 were Spawn and Mortal Kombat: Annihilation.

Was there ever a time that you grew tired of collecting and considered stopping?
Nope... been true to my nickname since day one!

Late 1998/early 99 so 28. Had a Toshiba player of which the numbers escape me, think it was 4900 or 5100. I know it had a region hack on videohelp that did not work one bit, so after 2 years I bought a Sampoo to be region free when I saw what I was missing from overseas. Since I'm on my second Toshiba 2900, first one I had to crack with a videocd, second was region free out of the box (and cheap, $50 at Media Play which would usually be over SRP). I've added a cheap Magnavox BD player to the arsonal, the same one you see at any Wal-Mart for under $100. Sucks I paid $120 for it.

First dvds were Deep Blue Sea, Blade and Love & a .45, First BD watched was Friday the 13th 2009, first bought was The Thing (had to upgrade non-amaorphic dvd).

Never even slowed down collecting I get ribbed about it all the time from the misses.

Have I grown tired of it? Not really, though I primarily buy Blu-ray unless a movie is only available on DVD.

My first DVD played was an LG; which was a gift to myself. I paid $400 for it and got a free copy of The Matrix. It was by far the worst DVD player I've owned; it became faulty after only two weeks.

The best DVD player I own is a SONY 5 Disc Turn Table. It's packed away now; I watch everything via my PS3 and my stand along Sony Blu-ray player that came free with my TV

I can't even remember my first DVD player, but I know it came with a mail in coupon for 5 free Warner Bros. titles (only one I remember being included was Sphere).

I ordered my first 2 DVDs online probably around October of 1999 so I must have been 31 years old. One was The Matrix and the other some Star Wars documentary (since this was during the Episode I craze), I think it was called The Stars of Star Wars or something like that. It was a bunch of crap, but I didn't mind, I had my first DVDs. Except I didn't have a player to play them on until March of 2000 when I bought my first player, a Samsung 709 (which I still own in working condition, although it doesn't get much use these days). I've never grown completely tired of collecting, but I've had my ups and downs during the years. Of course it's mostly Blu-rays now...

Cool topic.

My collection started in 2000, a nice, round 10 years ago. That would make me 23 years old. My first player was a cheapo from Wal-Mart that my girlfriend's mom bought us. I didn't care. It didn't cost me anything and I now had a DVD player. I honestly can't recall the first DVD I ever bought, but I do know that Blade Runner and The House on Haunted Hill were among the first 5 or so. I've never grown tired of collecting, but financial issues have made sure that I don't buy as much as I'd like to.

My first DVD purchase was from Best Buy on 12/7/1998.  I bought:

Dr. Strangelove
Meet John Doe
My Man Godfrey
Star Trek: First Contact
Star Trek: Generations

I'm still waiting for a decent print of Meet John Doe to be released on DVD.

I started in 1999. I was 17years old then. The first dvd was Manchester United: The Treble. A full season review of the 1998/1999 Manchester United season in which they won the Champions League in the memorable match against Bayern Munich!

When did you start collecting DVDs?
Early 1997. If I remember correctly the Chicago area was one of the first "test" markets.

How old were you?
29

What was the first DVD you ever owned?
The store I bought it from had a promotion going on that you got 5 free dvd's with purchase of a DVD player.
I can't remember all the titles, but I think they were:
Batman
Blade Runner: Director's Cut
Eraser
Lethal Weapon
The Wizard of Oz

Was there ever a time that you grew tired of collecting and considered stopping?
Nope.

First DVD Player?
I was into LD's before DVDs' So my first DVD player was a combo player. It was a Pioneer DVL-700. I think I got it for around $1100. I still own that one and still use it to play the few LD's that I still own. But the player is getting old and getting a little picky with it's old age.

Right now my primary DVD player is a stand alone Magnavox DVD Recorder.

Grave of the Fireflies

Nope.  I keep saying that I'm going to try to cut back, but it hasn't worked yet.

Our first DVD player was my former roommate's PS2.

2000.

How old were you?
28

What was the fist DVD you ever owned?
Harold and Maude (I bought it shortly before buying a player -- I'd wanted to see it widescreen since college)

Was there ever a time that you grew tired of collecting and considered stopping?
Ebb and flow.  Last year slowed a lot since I only buy DVDs used or at steeeeeep discount at this point.  I got a Blu-Ray player in December, though, and have started building that up.

My first DVD player was a ~$200 Sony.

Braveheart

In recent month I've been buying less and less because I can't find so much interesting stuff anymore. I've got nearly all the old movies I want and there aren't that many interesting movies recently.
