| Posted: | | | | I actually use the Benno CD/DVD towers and have about 10 of the bolted together, at £20 they were a very cheap way of storing nearly a 1000 DVD's and still have them on show.

In a Benno, 20x202, you can store 88 DVDs, 11 per shelf (Keep cased), for a price of 20 EUR.
4 x Benno = 352 DVDs, for 80 EUR (0,23 EUR per DVD).
4 x Benno width = 1 Billy.
In a Billy, 80x202, you can store 300 DVDs, 50 per shelf (Keep cased), for a price of 38 EUR (0,13 EUR per DVD). 44% cheaper than Benno, and everything is visible.
But in a Billy, with its depth of 28, you can easily double stack, raising the rear row. 600 DVDs, 100 per shelf, for 38 EUR (0,06 EUR per DVD). Front row entirely visible, back row half, and only 26% the price of Benno.

| Posted: | | | | I never thought about partially raising the back row above the front until now. Thanks for the thought, I'll put it to use right away. Green one your way Any suggestions what to use for the raising (cheap and reliable)? Since you seem to have experience with this approach, I figure it's easier to ask than to toss around ideas (yeah, I'm lazy, I know and am sorry...) | | | Lutz |

| Posted: | | | | The Malm is nice, but I must admit I like to keep my DVD's on display. What's the point of keeping all the cases etc if they are locked away in a drawer. I have one of the older style Billy's which is 97cm x 211cm and 32cm Deep. It is full I can't fit any more DVD's in I get about 62-64 DVD's per shelf, but I had NEVER even thought about raising up back half of the shelf, I always thought it was a waste of such a nice deep shelf unit. I am going to start working on getting the 2nd half raised, although it means I need to move the position of some of my shelfs somewhat. At the moment I have 7 shelf's but they are not all evenly spread the top 3 only have space for 1 layer of DVD's as I moved them closer together. Thanks for the inspiration though guys |

Therefore I didn't double stack, but I keep my entire CD-collection behind DVDs as stoppers . Naturally I have a location list for the CDs so that I know from which shelf to look for any particular CD. | | | Mika I hate people who love me, and they hate me. I have 6 of these and each has 3 drawers, each drawer can have 100 or so DVD's. Clean and descreate I also use Malms Currently I have 3 with 5 drawers (actually 4 big drawers and 2 small drawers) and one with 4 drawers. For my TV boxsets I use Expedit, which stands as a room separator (accessable from both sides). | | |

Be careful! Extra money increases the per DVD storage price disproportionately. Instead I'd rather rotate some DVDs by 90°, like this: Please note the perfect horizontal fit of 4 DVDs in a 80cm Billy. In this one shelf are 80 DVDs, with everything visible. 160 DVDs if it's only about storage, so 960 in a fully loaded Billy for only 38 EUR (about 0,04 EUR per DVD). Or extra space for current projects and unwatched DVDs: Billy is very customizable. | | | Don't confuse while the film is playing with when the film is played. [Ken Cole, DVD Profiler Architect] |

| Posted: | | | | IKEA will love us. Perhaps we all get a Billy as Thanks for the good advertisment. I don't use Billy or something from IKEA til now. Instead I use something like this in different sizes. (Billy doesn't exist in the colour matching to my other furniture) But with getting a bigger collection I have to think of something different. With much of these, too much space is wasted because of the doubled side walls. |
