I posted a month or so ago about not being completely happy with how BluRay looked on my TV.  I found it too real, just like when my parents used to watch public TV theatre.  Instead of having that "movie look", it looked like it was "live TV reality television look" instead.  I am not sure if that is very clear, but I can't quite think of how to describe it.

I was at a friend's house recently who has a brand new 55-inch 240 Mhz LCD panel.  We started watching a movie in 1080p, and there it was again.  Too live, it looked fake.  You could almost see that the actors were standing on sets.  It looked like low-budget last-second filming whereas it was a big budget movie.  I mentioned it to him and he said, "Oh right, sorry about that."  And then he flicked it off of Sports setting and onto a different mode (sorry, don't know what mode it was, except it was NOT movie mode).  The picture instantly improved in my eyes, and returned to a more "movie-like" mode.  I finally saw the advantage of 1080p!  The rest of the movie was just like being in a theatre, it was just great.

But now I want to know how to emulate that setting on my Samsung 50" plasma.  In my Movie mode, I have the problem.  That is how I set the default setting for my TV.  I had used a DVD to set up the options to Warm2 until I liked the look (on DVD at least), but it is obvious I need to find a different set of settings for BluRay.  Any ideas?

Thanks,
R.

Sounds like the contrast is set too high which can over-crisp lines and edges.

Dear Rooster,

I can't give you exact settings, as I have a Panasonic plasma myself. However, you might want to take a peek here,
here
and here.
And perhaps your specific model has a thread somewhere here - if so, you might want to ask there; if not, you could start a new thread there. That forum has some real experts.

Good luck!

DJ

I agree with DJ.  That's where I got the settings for my TV (AVSForum).  They have a thread for my specific TV model that has over 30,000 posts.  You'll find your answer there.
