| | Posted: | | | | This is sort of a spin on stories I have dealt with for my latter decade online.
For instance, the RIAA believes that for music to be played in a public location via CD (meaning you get to choose what is heard rather than the radio station which is been given license to play the music), everyone who is involved in listening to the music (not just the person that plays it) must have a licensed copy of the music as well otherwise they can face jail time.
Sounds stupid, I know, but the means to the end is to control access to the music or videos so that no sales are lost (believing no one who listens to "free music" ever buys CDs or MP3 downloads.) In the case of this article, it's considered partaking of the distribution of an illegal product by letting others know (advertising) that the video exists and where to find it, therefore making it available to be copied.

However the website channelsurfing.net did let anyone watch pay-per-view events for free. what pissed me off was every month i would spend my hard earned $45 for a UFC pay-per-view only to have my brother "steal" it from this website and talk about how big of a fan he was of UFC. also he would be able to watch any NFL game he wanted for free, where i tried to come up with a way i could afford the NFL package from direct tv. granted who hasnt downloaded a song for free, but i think being able to watch a live pay-per-view for free while others pay and being able to do this EVERY month is wrong. i also think the website was a much bigger deal because it was more money involved. I mean my 2 brothers would get the UFC pay-per-view every month. $90 right there per month. they also had numerous friends who also would watch from the website(i didnt because it would be hard for my family and inlaws to fit into our small computer room). i think jails would fill up quickly if they start arresting everyone who doesnt purchase a license to listen to music. |

I mean, it's not like the entire movie is on Youtube, just the trailer which I think is basically free advertising.
