| Posted: | | | | I was wondering, does anyone else use DVDP for more than the original purpose it was created for…cataloging your DVD collection? I ask, because I myself have expanded it to be alot more than the developers intended it for. I’ll explain, I currently have over 12,800 profiles in my local database (of which only 500 are my own DVD’s). This is so I can locally pull up a list of all the films a particular Actor, Director, Producer etc… has been involved in, then use this information for whatever purpose I require (maybe to then download the movies for example). Obviously, I can only see the films these people are in that have now been released on DVD, HD DVD or Blu-ray, so may miss a few. I use the ‘Wish List’ for all these films (but don’t necessary intend buying them later on!). Additionally I have a DivX tab for all my digital collection (like some of you do), another separate tab for Asian Cinema, and so on. I also like to copy and paste ‘Goof’ and ‘Trivia’ information into the notes field of a particular movie, to provide an overall background for the title. I recently posted some requests on the forum to further expand DVDP for example, actor information i.e. mini bios, country of birth, death year…etc to help me with the overall look of my local database. Hollywood Studios I expect, have their own bespoke databases of actors and films not available to us. We ourselves only have online sites like IMDB, and the TCM Movie Database!! But these are Online, not local and not very well laid out. So we ourselves have to create what we can, with what tools are available to us! I’d be interested to hear any other Profiler uses, who’s databases have now evolved into more than just a ‘my films’ collection list. Cheers..... |

| Posted: | | | | I use IMDb for all of those things...because they do it fairly well...so I don't want Profiler to do them. | Posted: | | | | I keep lists of my dubs and customs under different headers. I know wishlist isn't supposed to mean custom, but it does for me. I also know ordered doesn't mean dubbed, but I have to track all my titles somehow. I try to not contribute or vote on anything I don't own for real, but will sometimes fill in a blank profile with info from the film that shouldn't change. Never thought of tracking other stuff I don't own, I figure imdb and the net are good for that info. In a related note, my girlfriend used to swear by imdb, but has been seeing the errors lately. It used to be "where do I know that guy from?" and open imdb on her laptop. now it's "honey, go check your program"! Next step, teach her how to use it and look herself. |

| Posted: | | | | My reasons (and point) for using DVDP this way, is that I have control over what information is displayed and how it looks - customisation. Also it doesn't require online access for me to interrogate the information held within it once the database is built. So if my ISP goes down I can still get the info I require. It’s my own personal actors and films database.
To be clear (and no disrespect to TheMadMartian), I was encouraging any 'likewise' users to share their thoughts if they use it similarly. If you just use it in the traditional way it was designed for, then posting to say that, probably serves no point...I would take it that most DVDP users, use it the normal way. |

| Posted: | | | | Yup,
I profile, in separate databases, my Hot Wheels/Matchbox collection and my Entertainment related memorabilia collection. Of course certain things I have to leave blank, but I use the Artwork and SRP and where I bought it from and how much I paid (if I can remember) fields. For the overview I enter a brief description of the item. |

| Posted: | | | | I also use dvdprofiler to catalog movies that I do not own but that I saw on TV and would like to purchase when they will be released, which is not the case at this time. This is not really a wishlist , which I use only for DVD that I can buy, so I created a specific custom collection. | | | Images from movies |

Lol....a very novel way of using the software CubbyUps, good on you for thinking of that! I would also like to maybe add all my martial arts videos within DVDP (like some have) But I really ain't excited about the prospect of having to scan all those video covers like I did for my DVD collection previously! |

just copy and paste .... !!Copy and paste what exactly widescreenforever? I would need the original video covers for this separate database, so would have to scan from what I already own. Many of these titles would not be available through Google images, cause of there age and would probably be low res anyway...So do you know of a site that I don't that has martial arts video covers? |

| Posted: | | | | I was under the impression of this line of yours: But I really ain't excited about the prospect of having to scan all those video covers like I did for my DVD collection previously! that you had scanned them once already for your 'other' DVD collection ... | | | In the 60's, People took Acid to make the world Weird. | Posted: | | | | Lmao...ok m8! Nah, I meant I had to originally scan 500+ DVD covers from my collection before, which was a BIG drag! And now would have to do the same all over again for my old kung fu video collection. Was hoping for a video covers site for VHS tapes that maybe you had. I do know a great one for martial arts DVD covers that has a couple of thousand of em'. No probs...anyway | | | Last edited: by Blade185 |

| Posted: | | | | Try cdcovers.cc Set the search section to vhs, or only dvd will show up. Only bad thing is many are UK boxart, although I've found quite a few rare VHS and dvd scans here. |

| Posted: | | | | I've began to enter almost everything 'media-related' I physically own into DVDP. I've added all my games for example (but no DLC). And I'm going to add all my CD if I have the time. Also I've started to add things like my new keyboard & mouse. Easy to check purchase place and date in case of a warranty issue. Adding all this stuff by UPC + the amazon HTML window make it pretty easy to drag & drop covers to the profiles or to find out if an item is oop and might be 'valuable'. Most of the covers are good enough for a nice thumbnail view of the collection. Haven't tried with VHS, I only own 3 and haven't entered them yet, but I was able to get (front) covers for most of my 300 games this way in milliseconds. here is a picture of what it looks like for my Playstation games in case anybody cares http://img580.imageshack.us/i/capture2je.jpg/ | | | Last edited: by Corma |
