| Posted: | | | | It's interesting, but it left out one of the most important events, in US history, the year I was born. | | | No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever. There is no greater power in the universe than the need for freedom. Against this power, governments and tyrants and armies cannot stand. The Centauri learned this lesson once. | Posted: | | | | There was no Google yet. Or Yahoo. Or Invelos, for that matter. In 1980, the year of your birth, the top selling movie was Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back. People buying the popcorn in the cinema lobby had glazing eyes when looking at the poster. Remember, that was before there were DVDs. People were indeed watching movies in the cinema, and not downloading them online. Imagine the packed seats, the laughter, the excitement, the novelty. And mostly all of that without 3D computer effects. |

In 1965, the year of your birth, the top selling movie was The Sound of Music. People buying the popcorn in the cinema lobby had glazing eyes when looking at the poster.
Remember, that was before there were DVDs. Heck, even before there was VHS. People were indeed watching movies in the cinema, and not downloading them online. Imagine the packed seats, the laughter, the excitement, the novelty. And mostly all of that without 3D computer effects. Not only that it left out many important events of 1965, most passages referred to future events .... | Posted: | | | | In 1975, the year of your birth, the top selling movie was Jaws. For the year of my mom's birth, 1946, the top selling movie was The Song of the South. Which has yet to see a DVD release. For the year of my grandmother's birth, 1916, it didn't list a top selling movie. | | | If more of us valued food and cheer and song above hoarded gold, it would be a merrier world. -- Thorin Oakenshield | | | Last edited: by Danae Cassandra |

| Posted: | | | | That's cute. "1967 the top selling film was The Jungle Book. ... ...Do you still remember the songs playing on the radio when you were 15? Maybe it was Ebony and Ivory by Paul McCartney and Stevie Wonder..." This is hilarious, 'cause this song popped in my head this morning and I was singing it in the shower, getting ready for church. |

In 1959 two monkeys, Able and Miss Baker are the first living beings to successfully return to Earth from space aboard the flight Jupiter AM-18. In 1959 Castro's troops approach Havana. In 1959 the song Smoke Gets in Your Eyes by The Platters topped the US charts. In 1959 the show playing on TV is Bonanza. In 1959, Bryan Adams was born. And Rosanna Arquette. Nastassja Kinski, too. It was a very different world back then. | | | My WebGenDVD online Collection |
