| Posted: | | | | I've been investigating different options for connecting USB devices to a machine without a USB wire.
USB over OTA allows you to plug a USB device into a device which transfers the data OTA to a dongle which is plugged into the machine that wishes to connect to it.
USB over IP has a couple options: USB plugged into a device which transfers the data via LAN to another computer or software installed on multiple computers that acts as a bridge.
Has anyone foraged into this field yet and if so, what experiences have you had? My goal is to connect one or more web cams in one room to a broadcaster in another without running (additional) wires. |

| Posted: | | | | I've already got a wifi IP camera but I'm looking to stream the feed not using the devices built-in web server. I haven't found any video streaming app that'll take a IP video stream and broadcast it. |

| Posted: | | | | I used a Belkin Network USB hub before I got a printer that could connect to my home network via ethernet. It worked pretty good. You had to run a utility on your computer that spoke to the hub over your LAN, but it wasn't a resource hog. It had five USB ports on the hub and you could attach pretty much any USB device to it that you could to rhe USB ports on your computer. http://www.belkin.com/networkusbhub/ | | | Chris |

| Posted: | | | | I saw that one and discounted it after thinking it required a wireless router (as stated: not included) but now realize it's if you want to use the HUB wirelessly - makes sense. But it also states the following which I see frequently, may need to run the wires after all. Quote: * Data transfer rates do not support some high-speed/high-bandwidth USB devices such as HD streaming web cams or other video transfer applications. |

It only has a 10/100 megabit ethernet connection. You would probably need one that has a gigabit ethernet connection to get a fast connection that get anywhere close to what a wired USB connection would provide. | | | Chris |

| Posted: | | | | Hrm, then again, I don't plan on streaming HD content so it might work.... *ponder* Just that it's an HD web cam so not sure if that would work or not. | | | Last edited: by Dr. Killpatient |
