X-Files producer Frank Spotnitz said on his blog in October of 2008 that "there are no plans as yet to release the television series on Blu-Ray and there’s a significant technological hurdle to be overcome: while the photography in the series can be seamlessly transferred in high definition, all the visual effects were created in standard definition. Before the series can be released on Blu-Ray, we’ll either have to re-design all the visual effects or find a way to upgrade the resolution of the originals."
Although it was done for the Original Star Trek series, it would probably be cost prohibitive to have to re-shoot all of the special effects for so many episodes of the X-Files. The return on investment probably won't make it worth their while. | | | My WebGenDVD online Collection |

| Posted: | | | | The original Star Trek was done of film, meaning they only had to scan the finished product. X-Files was shot on film, but edited on video, so they'd have to go back to the dailies, which costs more. It sounds like they do have them and Star Trek: The Next Generation was apparently worth the expense. x-FIles didn't have a whole lot of effects shots and is quite popular. I'd say there's a significant chance, but not for a while. THis wouldn't just be for Blu-ray. It would also add a lot of value as a syndication package. |
