| Posted: | | | | Hey everyone! It's been a while since I have posted.
Currently I have been updated my database with all the purchases since Thanksgiving and I started to enter Narnia, The voyage of The Dawn Treader and I noticed that the UPC code was covered by a sticker. I removed the sticker (aware that the UPC was probably worng) and yep, it would go. I did a disc scan and it came up. I was a little more curious and I hadn't noticed that on the front of the Bluray is sais "Rental Exclusive" at the bottom. I bought this new at Hastings Books, a local store, and it was wrapped, sealed, and new.
I didn't think that Rental Exclusive items were allowed to be resold. It's just a single disc edition. I was just kind of wondering if I'm missing any special content. I did notice that this disc takes a long time to load (longer than other dvd's), but that could be a memory problem with my player.
Neway, I paid 19.95 for it and it plays. I was just wondering if I got ripped off or not. It's a little late to be taking it back now.
Thanks |

| Posted: | | | | It's common for rentals to be sold once their potential viewings have dropped to make room for other movies. A rental exclusive means there's something different about it that you can't get from a purchased version - like special content. But it could potentially be misleading in that you actually get less.
Though if it's been pre-viewed by x number of people and you paid $19.95 for it, I'd say you got ripped off. |

| Posted: | | | | More often than not "rental exclusive" means you get none of the extras, just the movie. There's about 4-5 flicks I want to grab from the closing Blockbuster store, but all were rental versions stripped of any extras so I wait to find cheap retail versions.
Hastings is a new and used store right? They probably didn't rent the dvd originally, but bought the rental copy from someone who bought or stole it from a rental store, probably Blockbuster. Not sure about this title, but once in a while those rental exclusive will have some deleted scenes or featurettes not on the retail dvd, but 99% of the time they are stripped to nothing.
Warpped sealed and new? No. Resealed to look new. | | | Last edited: by bigdaddyhorse |

| Posted: | | | | Hey, thanks guys.
Yeah, Hastings sells both new and used. I stopped there first because they are usually cheaper than Target. LOL! It was factory sealed and new.
I bit the bullit today and just ordered a new copy. This particular bluray takes forever to load on my unit. Much longer than any of my others. So, I'll just get another copy.
Thanks! |

| Posted: | | | | A slow-loading blu-ray is likely due to java-based encryption. It's likely the replacement blu-ray will behave exactly the same way. If so, the issue is with slow-performing processors in your blu-ray player and overly annoying encryption on the disc. |

| Posted: | | | | I found the best way to avoid long load times was buy a better BD player. Sad but true, my Magnavox is painfully slow comapred to a Sony I also picked up. It's not even about cheap either, both players cost about $80 on sale when I got em. |
