| Posted: | | | | The median wealth of a House member is $765,010… For a senator it’s $2.38 million. Yet, incredibly, they still enjoy all of this: $174,000 salary Free company car Free gas Free parking (even at airports) Free flights almost anywhere in the world Per diem travel allowance… up to $3,000 a trip A month’s paid vacation 3-day work-weeks Free membership to a top-flight gym Pension plan and 401K plan Full retirement benefits (including up to 44% of their six figure salaries) at age 62 Free top of the line health insurance with 10 plans to choose from Fully covered – even with pre-existing condition AND THEY VOTE THEMSELVES A RAISE EVERY YEAR AND ARE EXEMPT FROM INSIDER TRADING!!!!!!! HOW WRONG IS THIS??? Makes me madder than h _ _ _ ! Being a member of Congress is the most lucrative “Public Service” job in the world. Are our representatives officially out of touch with the real America? Should Congress live like the rest of us? | | | We don't need stinkin' IMDB's errors, we make our own. There's the saying that those who don't have, want; those who have, want more.
Think of just how unique the job is when it comes to making money. Unless you win the lottery or are born into "old money," everyone has to earn what they have. Whether you are the boss and earn it directly or an employee and earn it through a boss, you have to go after what you want to earn it. In every case, the money comes from offering a product that others are willing to trade their money for. They make the choice to trade for it. If you don't want to pay for food, you can go out and grow/catch/kill it yourself. If you don't want to pay for gasoline/petrol, you can walk.
As the taxpayer, we are the "boss" since we are the ones with the money that they earn. But unlike any other job, those employees get to set their own paychecks and can disagree with the bosses all that they want until they get fired in a few years (not a few days). By then, they can retire.
It's no wonder so many people try their hand at politics. | | | If at first you don't succeed, skydiving isn't for you.

| Posted: | | | | Putting aside that this is (obviously) a political thread and therefore not allowed in this forum.
Every country has the politicians it deserves. Originally the US Senate and Congress were designed to mirror the society. This is basically why there are so many people in them. Nowadays you don't have "normal" people going into politics anymore and that for a simple reason: It costs a fortune to get elected. So on the day the American society decided to elect it's representatives not for their personal integrity or expertise, but for their entertainment value they too decided that they wanted to be represented by good-looking crooks with enough money to buy prime-time spots on every station all over the country. These are (as every good capitalist should) mainly looking for a decent return on investment, means they plunder the country to make them and their sponsors even richer.
So blame yourself but please don't blame the pig for behaving like a pig. | | | It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up! But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?

| Posted: | | | | All I will say is that is why we have "career politicians". The money's too good to leave, and would Newt Gingrich get laid otherwise? Seriously, take away his job and he's a pervert in a raincoat, 70's style! |
