| Posted: | | | | Not a lot of people here watch CBS, I'm sure, but curious to know if the CSI spin-offs will be goners... I used to hate CSI: Miami but have come to appreciate the over-the-top, soap opera storylines and cheesy acting from David Caruso. | | | Last edited: by The Movieman |

TV Calendar has them pegged as "likely to be canceled", although I don't know where they get their information from. Personally I ceased to watch the spinoffs years ago, and even CSI really suffered from Gil's departure in my opinion. cya, Mithi | | | Mithi's little XSLT tinkering - the power of XML --- DVD-Profiler Mini-Wiki |

I've read that comment several times over the past few days on several Tv-related sites I'm following. And I, too, am still sad that they cancelled Firefly. But honestly, what are they supposed to do? Alcatraz's ratings were constantly dropping and TV networks are not charity institutions. Alcatraz wasn't even banished to the death slot friday and still couldn't make it. And quite frankly: It was a case of the week show where the escapee from the past continued their crimes in the present for no obvious reason. Even if it had been renewed I'd bet my behind that it would have never been explained what exactly happened in 1963 (yes, call me LOST-burned). | | | Karsten DVD Collectors Online

I really enjoyed two and half men before, but now.. No! And with Kutcher as the lead.. It doesnt do it for me.. I just hope that Charlie Sheen didnt have to screw things up so bad! I think two and a half men would be great still.. If he was on board.. But on a positive note.. Alot of great shows renewed :D |

Alcatraz wasn't even banished to the death slot friday and still couldn't make it. What are they supposed to do? Maybe cancel the shows that are doing poorly, and renew the shows that are doing well. Among adults 18-49, Terra Nova averaged a 3.6 rating, Alcatraz a 3.4 rating, Touch has a 2.8 rating, The Finder a 2.3 rating and Fringe a 1.6 rating. Touch and Fringe where renewed, while the higher rated shows, Terra Nova and Alcatraz were canceled. This wasn't done because "they couldn't make it." Like Firefly, and many other shows...Alien Nation, Space: Above and Beyond, Family Guy, Firefly, Dollhouse...this wasn't done just because of the ratings. While I do hate how FOX does things, I do have to give them credit for letting Fringe go out on it's own terms...I just hope it isn't an idiotic mashed up ending like Dollhouse was. | | | No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever. | Posted: | | | | I think cost was a factor for Terra Nova. The rating was decent, but not enough to justify the higher production costs given all the FX and location sets. With Alcatraz, I'd read that it's average may have been decent, but it was dropping each week and the finale was actually the lowest rated episode. They probably didn't see any signs that the show was maintaining an audience and would just keep slipping.
Can't say much about Touch other than the network probably wants to remain in business with Kiefer Sutherland and is keeping him happy. But with Fringe on Friday nights, the expectations are lower and given that they've already made four seasons, the next season will push the number of episodes to 100+ which will benefit the syndication sales for the series. So the fifth season renewal is something of an investment in anticipation of future syndication profits. |

| Posted: | | | | I'm rather upset that Terra Nova was canceled - I loved that show.
Guess I can delete The River from my TiVo. I'm getting into the habit of recording new series that look interesting but don't watch any until I hear they weren't canceled after 1 season. |
