Well .. after collecting DVD titles for over 15 years..my area for displaying these Movie jackets were getting
very cluttered and I was finding problems in locating a specific title within seconds .. was now taking me over 4-5 minutes to find some titles as my library had 'gotten 'out of whack' in its rotation of
chronological buys and alphabetical/ box set displays where now very over whelming becasue of their odd shapes / size and dimensions ..
So I took the Plunge and followed my own advice I gave in this thread .. I
chucked out all my Keep Case titles only .. BUT I kept my Snappers / Thin cases / digipacks / custom / and all my colorful Box set titles are displayed in its original containers . Snappers even though they could be taken apart I left as is .. all the others cases now fit very nicely on my 3 level display rack.. ( actually an old China cabinet with doors and glass ) .
But those
god awful Keep Cases
got removed from these shelves . I removed the artwork sleeves ( for future sales if need be) and then stored all these discs in a couple of bound 'Braxton' brand zippered' cloth cases.. ( 240 - <30 pages x 8> plastic sleeves ) - which I picked up at a stationary store for ten bucks each . the paper sleeves were easily compressed into a cardboard box.
I put the discs in
store-bought chronological order .,, NOT alphabetical ( would be a nightmare to be constantly rearranging titles ).. all titles that came as
Main feature disc 1 and
other features disc two - I then displayed the main feature face
up (12' o'clock) .. and the behind the scenes disc
down at 6 o'clock . so it makes the display case of titles very Aesthetically pleasing .. and easy to find when thumbing through the pages . I numbered every other page with a felt pen for easy find. and I used Profilers Slot and Location for where these titles are located .
I also discovered once Profiler has been updated with location/slot this info was kept when I updated the new library to Invelos servers and then brought back the information to my other computer the location was transferred .. so I didn't have to totally depend on backup -transfer .dpb to this other PC.
I do keep four .dpb saved data on two harddrives and two flash drives that can be kept out of the house in case of fire or theft..
I also kept a handful of various types of Keep cases for emergency, and took three huge containers down to the recycling depot and threw them out ..
I also discovered doing this process that I was now looking at titles in hand that I haven't opened since I bought in some cases Years .. Inspected each disc for rot (none).., finger prints and scratches as well as any missing titles ( I only found one ) - where is my Ratatouille !!
I don't feel in any way or shape a sense of loss of doing this - as I NEVER looked at my display area with a
sense of pride..,, I only look at my Profiler with a
Great sense of pride in looking after my titles and their locations ...
