FYI: I just heard a news item. For any residents of PA buying anything on Amazon.com after this Saturday, 9/1/12 will now have to pony up for sales tax. We are now one of seven states with this. Would love to know why other states have been able to avoid it. There is at least one state I think without sales tax (forget which).

As Amazon has six fullfillment centers in PA it has a "physical presence" and is subject to this collection. A victory for the state revenue dept. a real set back for the public.

Even with Amazon Prime and the varying discounts we get with the various items for sale, I will be losing money. Have a nice day.

We were headed that route, but Amazon threatened to move their fulfilment centers out of the state, so the legislature backed down.

I live in one of those states...New Hampshire. We have no sales tax here. We also have no income tax either.    But, we pay for it in other ways (higher meals tax, higher property tax, etc).
Maybe Amazon should move a few of it's distribution centers to NH?

They will probably start doing the same in Arizona also. They been talking about it.
Amazon has,I think, four plants here in the Phoenix area.

Interesting... Amazon threatening to move centers out of state. What state do you live in MadMartian? I wish they had tried that tactic in my state. I will admit I have been waiting since the late 90s for this to happen. Took some time. I figured the state's would find a way.

Delaware doesn't have sales tax, either.

Seems I was mistaken.  Amazon made a deal with our legislature.  In exchange for postponing collecting sales taxes back when our state demanded it...about a year ago...Amazon promised to create at least 10,000 full-time jobs and hire 25,000 seasonal employees by the end of 2015.  Why would Amazon agree to that?  One reason might be because the cities where the new fulfilment centers are going to be located are offering sales-tax rebates, giving Amazon the majority of the money collected.
