I want to get a copy of the film, but the reviews on Amazon are all over the place about DVD quality. But it seems like the two sets of reviews are mingled together. Anyway, if anyone here has it I'd trust your opinion more anyway, since we're all DVD nuts here. | | Posted: | | | | The Day of the Triffids is one of my guilty pleasures. It's not a bad film, but I guess the later versions are more true to the book. The ending feels tacked on, and apparently it is. Still I think you will enjoy it.

I think you mean the 1981 mini-series, although I guess it could have been edited into a movie. There is also a 2009 version. | | Posted: | | | | Out of the three versions I'd say that the 81 TV series is probably the best and the 2009 mini-series the weakest. The '62 version (with a non-singing Howard Keel) is my favorite, though.
There is one scene in the '62 version where a matte painting becomes painfully obvious, because smoke is disappearing behind what is supposed to be the background.
Guess I'll be getting the 2013 version too, if and when it becomes available. I was under the impression that this was going to be a UK production, too, and not a Hollywood one. | | Posted: | | | | The '81 British TV miniseries is the best, hands down. Unfortunately I can't tell you which release of the early sixties film is preferable. Not sure if this R2 release is equal to one of the two you were considering. If so, the review suggests to avoid it. |

I withdraw my earlier advice to look for the Allied Artists release. Apparently it is Pan & Scan and even worse than the Cheezy Flicks release. Didn't think that was possible...  I wish someone would at least release an anamorphic version. Better still, a remasterd BD version. But the chances of that seem slim.  | | | My freeware tools for DVD Profiler users.
