Does any else keep shrink wrap around sets? |

Do it to keep dust off as well as to protect the case for as long as possible.
Just wondering if anyone else does the same. |

I keep the inner paper and any relevant inserts (I toss ads, catalogs, etc. but keep booklets, chapter sheets, etc.) I only keep the case at this point if I think it's cool, if I think I might get rid of it later, or if it's blu-ray or Criterion (which are allotted precious shelf space). I was going to keep any cases that weren't keep cases, but that was still several tubs worth of cases and I just don't have the room. | | | If more of us valued food and cheer and song above hoarded gold, it would be a merrier world.

Back when music always came on vinyl, I collected LP records, which would come in a paper wrapping inside a carboard sleeve which had shrink wrap around it. Some collectors would leave the shrink wrap on the sleeve, just slittling the clear wrap enough to release the record, using the wrapper to prevent the cover art from scuffing when removing or replacing the album from the shelf. The problem was, is you lived in Sacramento, or Austin, or aniother hot summer month area, you needed to keep the albums stored verically, with ajacent albums tight against each other so the record itself would not warp. This was before many homes had air conditioners. The heat of daytime could further shrink the shrink wrap, causing pressure on the disk, perhaps enough to warp it. So we all learned to fully remove the shrink wrap. Later a nonshrinking clear wrap was sold to protect the art but not shrink.

So, I try to remove it, but sometimes, I just leave it until I watch it. Most Disney movies I open for the DMR points. I keep stickers and everything in the case, even ads. The stickers I'll remove from the shrink wrap-they usually come off pretty easily, and put them on the inside of the case. If it's a stick on UPC, I'll cut those out because they don't come off cleanly, but I like having the "official" UPC for the release. | | | | Lori |

| | Posted: | | | | I try to and do whenever possible. Although down the road the most shrinkwraps left will start to either tear or turn color, and they end up tossed after a few years. But a few have stood the test of time, my Friday the 13th box (Lake to Manhattan) still has the wrap as does my Twisted Terror box and Dogma SE dvd, had those since they were released. I usually use a small knife to slit open the edges and get the discs out from one side. I also keep stickers (inside the case), but only movie-related ones. Like I'll keep a DC sticker if it has a film logo, but throw away any ad stickers as they annoy me. I try to peel them first, but if they won't come off easy I cut around them. Oh yeah, I keep the title strips from the top of the case also, just a weird habit I picked up after buying a used disc from ebay that was kept this way. It actually saved me once with a movie so bad, so terrible, so worthless (Def by Temptation) I used a buddies shrinkwrapping machine and took a disc back as new after watching it. It was that or break it! I literally only did that one time with that one horrid movie. Stick on UPC's (on the keepcase over the real ones) can be cleared with some Goo-Gone and elbow grease, but they are the worst and take 5-6 sets of pour, let set, dig up residue with fingernail and wipe away. You have to want them gone and have 10-15 minutes to work on em.  Recently I got one and haven't bothered to try and clean it, I just used a new BD case. | | | | Last edited: by bigdaddyhorse |

*is running out of shelve space* I transferred almost all of my discs to binders (the kind you see at places like Best Buy for CDs & DVDs). I have the binders on a bookshelf in my bedroom. The inlays, booklets and related materials I right now have in small tubs in my shed. I'm working on transferring them to binders. I'm putting them into page protectors, like you get at office supply stores.
