I'd still like (love?) to see ICQ  removed in  version  3.8.2    ...
In the 60's, People took Acid to make the world Weird. Now the World is weird and People take Prozac to make it Normal.

Yeah, it would be cool, if we could add our Twitter names and facebook links to our user profile and get some little linked icons on the left-hand side.

I was actually surprised when I logged back in about 6 months ago (yes, I still have and active account) how many people still use ICQ, but then I see so few (but still some) who put their account numbers in their forum links.

I still have two friends that use it regularly (out of the 100+ I had back then) after 10 years knowing them.

Considering the amount of inventions in that period of time ('the history of man') that's quite an accomplishment.

I don't use Twitter as a tool of two-sided communication. For me it's more the successor if RSS feeds.

I've subscribed to mostly real-world news as well as TV news and some TV-character accounts like @TheRealSheldonC and @WriteRCastle...

Except for the DVD labels I support feed I don't really care about Twitter as I don't give a damn about what a "celebrity" opinion on whatever subject is.

That's the same with me. Twitter can be a good source if a website goes down or something, so I also follow a few websites/forums that I use. Sometimes the websites will go down occasionally due to technical issues, and I'll check Twitter to see if they've posted any updates.

Same here.  It's a great tool to keep up on various things.  I use it to follow the latest news on whichever topics I'm interested in.  And it's presented in a short and concise format.  I don't use it to talk to people.

Twitter is a recent communication tool.

And like anything invented after someone is a child, it meets reactionary resistance.

The gramophone would replace the parlour piano.

Telephones would replace personal visits.

Films having audible dialog would be radio with pictures.

Television will kill cinema.

Pay TV will kill commercial TV.

Texting causes fights because you cannot hear the tone of voice.

Get over it people. No matter how much you complain about the Tweets, the market will decide if it lasts or dies. Face it, whether you like it or not, many people use Twitter all the time. I enjoy forums, but find Facebook a way to stay in touch with musicians I knew "when" and cartoonists who are scattered across the country. My son (who is 42) prefers Twitter to Facebook, so I look in on his Twitter feed every day. It does not harm me any more than Twitter harms you. Invelos has a Twitter feed. Use it if you like, avoid it if you don't. Grousing about it will not make it go away.

You would think this forum had become the Fark Politics forum with the negativity here.

"Get off my lawn" seems to be the mode of discourse.
If it wasn't for bad taste, I wouldn't have no taste at all.

Cliff
