As we are on a knowen Major fault line, building code has , at least in Modern times, quite strict on Eartquake proofing. Of course you can never build for the big 7+ quakes, but this time there was actually less damage than the last one. We had our call center moved, and after their building had some repairs, were going to move back in this weekend. That is on hold now. Here at home, other than a few new cracks in the external cladding, we are fine. Last time I had a big DVD rack pull the anchors out of the wall and move a couple of inches sideways. Did not fall over thankfully as was directly behind the wife. We have 4 big china cabinets with...hold on another major 5 happening now ....cat has headed under the table. Anyway the cabinets have Artist Proof Lord of the Rings statues in them, and fortunately no damage yet, they are quite heavely secured to the walls. |
