Sad to say, with the operation to remove the tumour hopefully happening within the next couple of weeks, I suffered another (my second) epileptic fit yesterday, again whilst asleep before waking.

Maybe I'd got too complacent after 3 months of feeling fine waiting for an op that's only a short time away and wasn't treating myself right... who knows? All I can say is that where my calves cramped up really badly and I bit my tongue I'm still aching, and yesterday I just felt knackered all day getting over it!

Hopefully it will push me up the operation list a bit (though I'm not sure as I think I'm top of the non-malignant list already) and in the meantime I need to see the GP about my sick note anyway so will see if he wants to up or add to my meds until the operation.

Hope everyone else on here is doing OK! I'll try to look after myself a bit better

Had to look up what knackered was.

Good luck on the outcome.

I'm really sorry to hear you had another epileptic fit. The symptoms you mention sound familiar - I've had a friend who suffered from epileptic fits.

Leading a regular life with sufficient food and sleep at fixed times should help preventing more of them. Hopefully your operation can be pushed forward. Here in Holland sometimes when people have to wait too long for an operation they can go to Belgium or Germany to get the operation more quickly - any such options under the NHS?

Take care,
DJ

Sorry to hear that Voltaire, fingers crossed you're ok till the op.

deejay, not really an option under the NHS, you can pay for a private op outside the NHS, but not sure it would happen any quicker than the two weeks he's got to wait now. You can also run into issues around ongoing treatment, i.e. you may end up having to pay rather than the NHS paying for it.

Thanks, all, your support is appreciated.

Feeling a lot better now; I think the fact I had 3 months symptom free may have made me a bit complacent as to lifestyle! I believe the NHS sometimes send people abroad who are on *very* long waiting lists but since I'm due within weeks I should think they'll just go ahead as planned, possibly upping my dose of anti-epileptic drugs in the meantime (I'm waiting for the specialist nurse to get back to me on that).

Looks like you're right Voltaire, one of the benefits of being in the EU.

Link to guidance

Does depend on the waiting period and they'll only pay for the treatment up to the amount it would cost under the NHS, any extra cost is at patients expense, as is accomodation and travel.

Good to hear you're feeling better! I reckon that now it's just a question of sitting it out, if possible with higher doses of medication, until you're due for operation and adopting a moderate lifestyle until then. Hopefully you can catch up later...

Good luck.  Take care of yourself so you are stronger for the operation.  The fitter you are the more will help in the recover.  Every little bit helps.

Seizures suck in general, but seizures while sleeping always bothered me more because I can't wake myself up (unlike having just a bad dream.)

Only a few weeks and steps for you to go! Best of luck in with the next few weeks.

My GP has upped my dose of anti-epileptics now and my wife is making sure I'm awake before she goes to work so hopefully that will help stop any repeat of suffering from a fit before the operation.

Thanks to all for your best wishes
