| Posted: | | | | How do most of you feel about the inclusion of a Digital Copy disc or key code when you buy blu-rays. Personally I never use them and would not miss them if not included. Its hard here in Australia to not buy a title without this being included. I wonder how much it adds to the price to have it included. What do you all think? |

| Posted: | | | | I don't use them, and do not see their interest, since the quality is very poor compared with blu-rays. In my country, they are included in first releases, often with special editions in those awful steelbooks. Fortunately, a few monthes after, we can buy new editions with correct packaging (blue plastic box), at a lower price, and generally without digital copy code. | | | Images from movies |

| Posted: | | | | I thought I would get some use out of them when I was traveling to take my daughter to college. But turned out I was much happier popping the actual disc into my laptop. I wouldn't miss them in the least if they stopped including them. | | | Pete |

| Posted: | | | | At first I used them for getting credits from the films that only had a Blu-ray and a digital copy. I then upgraded my computer and of course lost all functionality of the digital copies because they are tied to your computer setup. I haven't used them since.
Yes, I'm very annoyed that we pay for this disc that has no value whatsoever. | | | Marty - Registered July 10, 2004, User since 2002. | | | Last edited: by mreeder50 |

| Posted: | | | | Wouldn't have expected such a clear result. Always thought I was about the only one not to use this. Funny thing is, if they would include a random other movie I would probably make use of it. | | | It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up! | Posted: | | | | I don't see much of a point myself. But I guess most of us here are very much into physical media. I've redeemed maybe 4-5 titles either for exclusive extras (Star Trek Into Darkness) or because I had to use the code for other reasons (Disney's DMR program). | | | My DVD/Blu-ray Collection My Letterboxd Page |

Even though I've worked on computers my whole life, I guess I'm just old fashioned, I like the hard copy.
Although not the same thing: I do down load some of The Great Courses' lectures from the Teaching Company when I buy one just to check it out. Like: The Origin and Evolution of Earth: From Big Bang to Future it was so interesting I watched about 6 of the 48 lectures right after I bought it.
And have bought some the music sets that I can play from the cloud as well as on my computer. For a dollar or two they are not bad, example: Amazon's 100 Must-Have Movie Classics.
I guess in the future everything will be stored in a cloud. It seems, the older I get the more time I spend in a cloud all the time.

Wouldn't have expected such a clear result. Always thought I was about the only one not to use this. Really?? At a site were people collect physical media? Missing an option, Use them Occasionally I still prefer the disc. Ultraviolet was terrible at first, but I do like having both UV & ITunes. I can watch my UV through CinemaNow on my PS3 wherever I am. I have a bunch of of movies on my iPhone (rarely watch them) but it's nice to have. | | | HDTV: 52" Toshiba Regza 52XV545U AVR: Onkyo TR-707 Speakers: Paradigm Monitor 7 v6, CC-190 & Atom Monitors Subwoofer: Definitive Technology ProSub 800 BD/DVD: Oppo BDP-93 (Region Free) HD PVR: Motorola DXC3400 500GB w/ 1TB Expander BD/DVD/Game: 250GB PS3 Slim DVD/Game: 250GB XBox 360 Elite Special Edition (Black) Game: Wii Remote: Logitech Harmony One w/ PS3 Adapter WHS: Acer H341 Windows Home Server |

| Posted: | | | | Personally, I don't use the digital copy because I don't watch movies on the computer and my big screen is hooked up to a proper BR player.
But I would prefer TV show episodes as digital media because I watch one or two discs worth an evening and at the moment I watch three shows simultaneously: Gilmore girls, The West Wing & Boston Legal, all of them bought as complete series packs (7 seasons, 7 seasons & 5 seaons) and they're just not good to handle. I fpush comes to shove, I rather download the entire show from a grey source again and leave the DVDs on the shelves. | | | Karsten DVD Collectors Online

| Posted: | | | | I personally don't really care about them. I know in some cases we spend more but others it seems to be a wash on it. :/ I do know people who use them frequently. They have 'net connection to their tv and watch them that way. I also belong to a UV group with several other people and have, the few times I've been able to access the movies (another issue with dc's that I seem to have-being able to actually view them!) that someone else has redeemed which can be nice.
I'm not going to go out of my way to look for something with a dc, but it doesn't bother me too much when they are included. | | | Lori |

Wouldn't have expected such a clear result. I know, right? The forum members have come to a clear consensus on an issue! . . . *world explodes* For the collector it seems like a great idea: create something the user can carry around and watch on his/her portable device without worrying about harming the main DVD disc itself. I don't think the idea would have passed, though, if not for the fact that they hoped it would stop piracy. "We give them a copy with DRM security that they can put on their computer without illegally ripping the movie for use on a computer, and they will stop doing it." Yea.... no. Didn't work. | | | If at first you don't succeed, skydiving isn't for you.

| Posted: | | | | Some of the comments here really humorous. It seems that some people forget that the items they collect are carriers of digitally encoded material. Yes Virginia, even a Blu-Ray disc is a digital copy that you have purchased a license to use. If I am not mistaken, the mp4 compression method was originally designed as a more powerful and effective way to encode HD content on BD and HDDVD. I think the codec typically used with mp4 can create both lossy and lossless encoding. Maybe this is how you can get different qualty levels from the same source ... Anybody knows more about this ... pls feel free to clarify this.
I have recently become a fan of Ultraviolet. The quality can be quite good. The HD versions are downscaled (same HD resolution, but lower data rate, fewer audio formats, no menus or extras, etc.).
The way I look at it, the profit model for BD prices includes providing downloadable digital copy and other services. If I am paying for it, I might as well use it and get more value for my money.
Ultraviolet is NOT tied to a machine. You can watch and/or download to virtually any device. And you can share your library with several family members - I think 5.
So I emplore you to not let your misconceptions prevent you from appreciating the facts, and the true power and versatilty of these new media. | | | Thanks for your support. Free Plugins available here. Advanced plugins available here. Hey, new product!!! BDPFrog. | | | Last edited: by mediadogg |

| Posted: | | | | I actually discussed this with a friend last week. We noted that the upcoming Game of Thrones Blu-ray set would include not only the Blu discs, but also DVD AND Digital Copy discs, pushing the MSRP to more than $80. Totally unnecessary.
I may have downloaded one digital copy a couple of years ago, but never watched the movie on any mobile devices or my laptop.
I buy a lot of catalog titles, and a new pet peeve of mine is buying a movie with digital copy included but the offer has expired. | | | I was wise once; when I was born, I cried - Welsh proverb |

| Posted: | | | | I use the digital copy on my tablet when waiting to see a Doctor, and other such appointments. I also use the tablet to view movies long car trips, since she always drives since my M.S. acts up when I sit for a long time.) I also sometimes make digital copies of other DVD's I own for the same reason. The only problem with doing such is the size it takes up on my Tablets SD card. I just noticed almost all sentences start with "I", seems to show a lack of humility. Actually when it comes to humility, I'm the greatest! Bobb | | | Do Cheshire Cats drink evaporated milk? |
