| Posted: | | | | Having a bit of time off over the Christmas period has given me the chance to think about 'life things' more than normal, big and small. I was wondering.... Profiler gives us the chance to include the cost of what we enter into our own, local database. I buy a lot of DVDs etc online, so when I put the cost in I include the shipping costs when there are any identified. Is that what others do or do you exclude the shipping, or do something else entirely? Happy New Year! Paul By the way, here's the latest in Nazi-themed, Japanese, fetish child porn; and it's got rabbits in it too. | | | Do you ever find yourself striving for perfection with an almost worthless attempt at it? Guttermouth "Lemon Water". Also, I include in my Profiler database VHS tapes, audio DVDs, audio books (digital, cassette and CD), video games (digital, DVD and CD) and 'enhanced' CDs with video tracks on them, as well as films and TV I've bought digitally. So I'm an anarchist, deal with it. Just be thankful I don't include most of my records and CDs etc in it too; don't think I haven't been tempted... |

| Posted: | | | | In my purchase price I enter what I ultimately paid. That includes shipping costs, custom fees as well as discounts. If there's more than one item in the order I split the non-item costs evenly across all items. I've written myself a small Excel macro for this. You can find the file here. In the first sheet you simply enter the basic data and in the second the item prices. Then you just press a button. | | | Karsten DVD Collectors Online

One could argue that this way I would have to include 'fare' when I buy at a local store, but as only ~10 of my 1000 titles are bought at a such a store the point is somewhat moot. | | | Mithi's little XSLT tinkering - the power of XML --- DVD-Profiler Mini-Wiki |

| Posted: | | | | I keep the SRP for insurance purposes but I don't keep track of any other DVD cost data. I don't want to know how much money I've spent on my movies. |

| Posted: | | | | I include the cost of shipping, but never the tax. However, I rarely ever order online and when I do, I try to order enough to get free shipping. I buy locally so if there's a problem, I can return it. | | | Marty - Registered July 10, 2004, User since 2002. | | | Last edited: by mreeder50 |

| Posted: | | | | I include all costs (shipping, customs) for online orders. I also split the costs evenly across all items. If I go to a physical store, I don't include the cost to park the car. | | | View my collection at http://www.chriskepolis.be/home/dvd.htm

That's why my Database Query plugin doesn't give you those numbers by default. I never wanted to know! If I need it quicker than Amazon can provide, I go to Best Buy. And I'm another Oregon person, so no sales tax for me too! | | | Get the CSVExport and Database Query plug-ins here. I put in the cost of the DVD itself... not what it cost to get to me (or any other charges). I am a pretty literal person and in my eyes that is not what I paid for the DVD... but for other things. | | | Pete |

| Posted: | | | | I currently enter the total cost of acquiring a disc because, quite frankly, that's what it cost me to acquire it. This includes the cost of the disc, shipping, tax or fees, and any discounts. In some cases I don't pay shipping and handling but in other cases I do since I don't want to limit myself to only those that provide free shipping. In addition I've imported discs from other countries and it's rare that the shipping is free. I've also moved around quite a bit and not everywhere I've been is tax free nor has the same tax rate. So in the end, I like knowing what I spent on the physical product, or the shipping, or tax, etc. I guess that's the long way of saying I record the cost in the same manner as DJ Doena. | | | Last edited: by rdodolak |

| Posted: | | | | I enter what it cost me to obtain the DVD, including shipping and taxes as appropriate. I can't imagine why tracking any other amount (other than SRP) would be of interest.

| Posted: | | | | I put the actual cost... not sure how shipping/duties/taxes aren't for the DVD/Blu-ray. If you didn't buy the Disc you wouldn't have had to pay the fees, IMO the true cost of buying it. At least that is how I use the field. | | | HDTV: 52" Toshiba Regza 52XV545U AVR: Onkyo TR-707 Speakers: Paradigm Monitor 7 v6, CC-190 & Atom Monitors Subwoofer: Definitive Technology ProSub 800 BD/DVD: Oppo BDP-93 (Region Free) HD PVR: Motorola DXC3400 500GB w/ 1TB Expander BD/DVD/Game: 250GB PS3 Slim DVD/Game: 250GB XBox 360 Elite Special Edition (Black) Game: Wii Remote: Logitech Harmony One w/ PS3 Adapter WHS: Acer H341 Windows Home Server | | | Last edited: by DoubleDownAgain |
