I have been working on a program for a while, and I thought it would be fun to hear if anyone has any thoughts on how useful (or useless) such a program would be. It was initially inspired by Mark Harrison's Database Query. It is, however, not an addin. It works off the xml file that is created when you export your collection. That can be an advantage or disadvantage, depending on your point of view. The main disadvantage is, of course, that you need an up-to-date export file. An advantage is that you're not depending on having Profiler running, or having Profiler available at all, just the export file. It also loads data a whole lot faster than Database Query. My 7021 profiles loaded in just under 30 seconds, while Database Query took 5 minutes and 25 seconds. Although if you have to export your collection first, that takes away most of the time advantage.

The program is far from finished. So no guarantees that it ever will be, or that it will have the features you see now. I haven't yet decided how many bells and whistles I will add. Possibly very few if I decide this is for my personal use only. But we shall see. The program is made up of three main parts; selection, presentation and result.




In the selection part you can add any selection criteria. That's one of the main features of the program - you can combine any criteria. So here I wanted to see if I had any PAL profiles with locality United States. If I find any, they will probably be incorrect.



And I decide that I want to see Collection Number and Title for the profiles that match the selection.

Unfortunately I can't show you the result, because as of now it is only displayed as debug output. But I did find 7 titles, and 6 of them were indeed the wrong locality. Initially I will implement text output, with possibility to save as a file that can then be loaded into a spreadsheet like Excel or OpenOffice Calc, or whatever. Eventually I will probably also implement output in a datagrid.

The search is not case sensitive, and there are no set search values. You have to know what you can search for. For example, you can search for Country Of Origin StartsWith United and get profiles for both United States and United Kingdom, if that's what you want.

So, any thoughts on this?

I decided not to be so lazy after all, so I added selectable values to all (I think) relevant fields.
You now get something that looks like this:

The combobox is editable, so if I missed or misspelled something, or if new values are made available in later versions of Profiler, you can still search for them. These values are shown only if you search for Is equal to or Is not equal to.

If I did miss or misspell something, please let me know.

Final major change before release (I think):
2015-04-25  0.11.0:
                    Added fields: Number of Discs, Number of Tags, Number of Audiutracks, Number of Subtitles, Number of Crew and Number of Cast.
                    Added Settings window with Max # Cast, Max # Crew and Separator. Separator combobox removed from main window.
                    Changed the Presentation Sets menu to Tools, with Presentation Sets as a submenu and Settings as a subitem.
                    Corrected Regions to string instead of integer.
                    Multiple objects in a field now returned with comma as separator.

I have tested your tool. I seems to work fine, though I'm far to have tested everything. In certain cases we get similar results with Database Query plugin, but with your tool we can more easily combine several criteria, so both tools are really interesting.

I tried it out last week and didn't get any results from anything I tried.  I'll have to try the latest version to see if that works better.

That's a good idea! I searched the title for "/" to do the same thing, but of course that gave quite a few false hits. I wish I had thought of using the disc description.

Yeah, that was my main reason for creating it. While I was inspired by Database Query, I really don't see my program as an alternative to it, but rather as a complement. With just the xml file, there are a lot of things I can't do that Mark does excellently in Database Query.
