I once saw a Thai film on Netflix, "Ploy," that was very intriguing. A few months later, I went back to see it again, and discovered it was gone from there and just about everywhere else.

Then recently I discovered a German pressing on Amazon, packaged by ArtHaus. It was #06 of the ArtHaus Collection. I was amazed at the quality packaging of the item. In a heavy cardboard jacket with a nicely printed booklet of liner notes about the film. Of course, everything is in German and the disc is Region 2 PAL format. I am not fluent in German, but my High School studies and travels during college allow me to appreciate the subtitles and pick up enough from the text to be enjoyable. And the technology stuff - well, that is easily solved.

Then, I went to the ArtHaus web site and now I am excited to maybe try to own the whole collection of "50 Best Films". The trailers on the Ploy disc are high quality, and the film choices suit my tastes.

So, any of my German friends out there want to offer comments on the "ArtHaus" brand, or anything about how to obtain the collection at a good price?

By the way, I was able to scan the UPC into DVDP, so I assume these items are legitimate.

I have quite a few ArtHaus releases in my collection....at least some of which are fully bilingual: German/English.
Class act.

I'd put them up on top alongside the likes of: Kulture, Criterion Collection, Deutsche Grammophon, Artificial Eye, BFI....

Well that certainly confirms my perception of the quality. Now if I can just find a way to afford and obtain that "50 Best" collection ...

Hmm ... not even on Amazon.de.

I also like the Arthaus label, the only thing that bothers me is that the cases of their collections are higher than usual DVD cases. Some of the Arthaus collections (like the one for literature adaptations) can be bought as a complete sets but as far as I can tell the collection you are interested in is only sold as separate releases.
Recently bought films:

The Matrix [Blu-ray] | Shirins Wedding [DVD] | The Graduate [Blu-ray] | Prometheus [Blu-ray 3D] | Hwal [DVD]

Yeah, I looked more closely after your comment. It seems what I want most is in the Asian Collection, which is one of the sets available. Now just a matter of sniffing out the best price / postage, etc. There are 10 titles in the Asian Collection and I already bought #06, so I guess I'll be selling that one off when I get the set.

I just realized that this is not true. I mixed that up with the somewhat similar collections released by the "Süddeutsche Zeitung" here in Germany.
