I really like blu-ray Steelbook cases. The cover art is usually better than the general release cover art and the sturdy cases seem to be more durable and long lasting. Plus, I think they look much cooler than the standard cases.

I am interested in submitting the cover images (front and back)  from the Steelbook cases to DVD Profiler. I think it would be very cool to have the option of using the actual Steelbook covers (especially the unique back covers) in my collection.

I have uploaded a couple so far (Divergent / Insurgent) and the profiles should be available soon for download. That is not an endorsement for either movie I just happened to start with these cases. I am going to submit more and I hope that they are approved and released as alternate versions with appended UPC codes for our collections.

I have at least 50+ Steelbook, MetalPak, Ironpak releases and I just ordered the Fast and Furious series of movies, each in it's own individual Steelbook. There are quite a few titles available and more releases are announced each week. Tracking the new releases and where they will be sold requires a little effort but I think it's worth the exercise.

Are there other Steelbook enthusiasts out there? What are your thoughts?

Personally, I hate steelbook cases and avoid them as much as possible. They are ugly and fragile, and when they are damaged, they cannot be changed, as we do with plastic cases. And reflective covers make very bad scans...

You know I've never given much thought about replacing damaged Steelbooks (surfeur51). You make an excellent point. I don't have kids and my wife is usually very careful handling cases so this rarely comes up. I have replaced a few plastic DVD cases over the years and I kept blank, empty extras just in case. So, it does happen.

I have never had to replace a Steelbook case, yet. But I guess it is a possibility. If I ever do damaged one or it falls apart I'll probably be pretty bummed out.

I still think they are very cool and offer a collectable alternative to the standard issue Blu-Rays.

I am also very impressed with the Invelos website! (bbbbb) I am a relatively new user and still have much to learn and absorb.

Guests to my home theater are blown away when I use my Apple TV unit to show off my collection on screen and play trailers for movies they might want to watch. Also keeping track my collection and keeping it in order is very important to me so this app lets me accomplish several tasks with ease.

Having all of my collection available on an extra iPad in the theater keeps guests and their visiting children from rummaging through my alphabetized collection looking for a movie to watch. And to me, that is well worth the time and effort of setting it up. Even the very young children get a kick out of using it.

I don't quite understand the phrase "resurrect this post"? (widescreenforever) I initially put the post on the general discussions page but I thought it would better fit the subject matter on the website discussion page. So I posted here and deleted subject post on the general page.

I get it (bbbbb). On my previous search of the topic "Steelbooks" I did not go back far enough in time. I did not intend to resurrect a controversial subject.

I have read the previous discussions on this topic and I now see that it has been thoroughly discussed.

Thanks for the nudge. I appreciate the guidance.

I don't know that this subject is controversial...in the wrong forum, yes, but not controversial.

If you want to discuss Steelbooks, please feel free.  I just recommend doing it in the 'General Forum'.

As I mentioned earlier I'm new to the website and I am also new to regularly posting in any of the website forums.

I originally posted this subject in the the general forum but I changed to the website forum because I noticed that in many instances the website profile shows the removable, paper insert (UPC code, cast and crew members, general info, etc.) as the back image of Steelbooks. I'm sure that this is fine and I have no objection to this method. But most people probably throw this paper sleeve away or, if you are goofy like me, fold it up and keep it inside the case.

Many steelbooks; however, actually have additional or interesting artwork on the back of the case and I happen to prefer showing this cover art in my collection. I wanted to review each steelbook in my collection and check the DVD Profiler database to see which artwork was in each profile. If the actual case artwork of the steelbook was not in the profile I would scan it and submit it as an alternate UPC code which is an option in the software program as well as an allowable option in the contribution rules.

I completely understand that this is a nit picky subject but fun to fool around with nonetheless.

I have submitted profiles of a few steelbooks and if you enter the UPC or the title you will see two choices for each profile because they are entered as alternate versions of the same title with the exact same UPC. Only the artwork is different.

I thought that since I was proposing submitting a separate and selectable DVD profile on the website that this subject should be discussed in the website forum. I did not want to continue submissions if this was causing confusion or was somehow objectionable to the other members.

After reading the past posts on the subject of Steebooks I realized that there had been a lengthy discussion about the way steelbooks were considered in the profile. Members also had many different opinions and steelbook preferences. That is what I meant when I said "controversial". I just meant that I had no idea there were a lot of things to consider before, as a newbie, I started making changes that were maybe better left alone.

Is this a valid concern? (TheMadMartian) And as a longtime member do you think I should move this discussion to the general forum? And if so, how should I proceed to do that?

You are absolutely correct! (ateo3557) I was not aware of that forum. Would you have a suggestion as to how I should move this discussion to that forum?

Start a new topic in the Contribution Discussion thread. State exactly what your thoughts are and what who think the remedy should be. Then get out of the way while the non-contributors discuss how contributions should be made.

Then like all others, do what you like and let the screeners decide.

This sounds like the discussion with J-Cards. Might want to check the forum search for J-Cards and read that forum discussion. Might be helpful.

Don't let your newbie status (or cranky oldtimers) stop you from taking part.  New blood and new ideas are never a bad thing. If you have something to bring to the table, bring it!  As long as you're not submitting crap to the database, you're off to a fine start (regardless of where the thread was opened).

This is probably the grouchiest group of people I know online.  As long as you have thick skin and don't take things personally, you'll be fine.
