| Posted: | | | | What exactly is Gracenote and is there a way to fix it when it is wrong.
I know that Grace Note attempts to tell you what disc is in the player. But in my experience it is one of three things that happens when it reads the disc.
1. It is right and all is good. 2. It will have title but no cover image and/or actor info. 3. It is completely wrong.
For example I just watched Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox. When Gracenote read it... it tells me a completely different film... The Fat Spy with Phyllis Diller and Jack E. Leonard. | | | Pete |

| Posted: | | | | Unfortunately, there really isn't a way to fix or report these errors unlike their CD (CDDB) database. Gracenote will just tell you to report the error to the developer of the product you're using. |

The only thing to do is to create a "error with gracenote" tag, and enter religiously this information in your own database | | | Images from movies | | | Last edited: by surfeur51 |

| Posted: | | | | As you already well know... this has nothing to do with the online database or DVD Profiler at all. Which is why I put it in the general forum. This has all to do with another site out there having the wrong information for the disc id on hand. I was only wondering if anyone here knew anything about this other site and if there was anything that could be done to fix that problem. Apparently not so no big deal. | | | Pete |

From the TV Series original title discussion, why he would care about bad data in another site when he is against using a field the way it should be used in this site. |

| Posted: | | | | First ateo357 you need to get your facts straight. When it comes to original title in TV series. That is not something I am against. It is something I know Invelos decided against. And I posted the link to prove so. It is however my feeling something we can do nothing about until we change the mind of Invelos on it.
No different then I am unhappy with the linking system.... no different then I am unhappy with Invelos' decision for complete series TV show sets. I will follow with my contributions and votes how Invelos decided until such time they make it known that they changed their mind on it.
This however is a completely different situation. To my knowledge the sole purpose of Gracenotes on blu-ray players is to identify the disc in the player. And in some cases it is not doing this sole purpose correctly.
That is why I came here to see if Gracenotes indeed was just what I thought it was.... and if it was if there was a way to get the info corrected when it is wrong. No more.. no less then that. | | | Pete |

I have my facts straight. I've seen it in your comments on many subjects in the forums. You would rather have it done wrong, within the rules (so your database will search they way you want), then to do it correctly within the rules. I don't care about gracenotes, anyone else and their personal databases, your opinions on movies, and after a few more months, this database. I'll just hang around to take jabs, kinda like bbbbb & yves do. |

You say that you are unhappy with the linking system, but you promote a "non written" rule that modifies credits to create variants that exist nowhere except in Invelos database and which breaks linking for thousands names... I read what you say, and wonder why you act to get the contrary... | | | Images from movies | | | Last edited: by surfeur51 |

And now, suppose we are on a Gracenotes forum, and somebody writes something like : "I downloaded in dvdprofiler a profile for a movie and got an overview describing a totally different film. Is there a way to fix that error ?" What would you answer him ? that you will act to try to change a stupid "recopy exactly" rule that ruins Invelos database ? And if you want your acts match with what you say, why not open a thread in the Contribution Rules Committee to modify rules to allow to fix obvious errors existing in covers/dvd... ??? | | | Images from movies | | | Last edited: by surfeur51 |

| Posted: | | | | did I ever say I disagreed with the overview rule? No I didn't. I believe the overview rule is the way it should be. When it comes to linking I don't like it but know we need a program fix for it to be done correctly.
I personally don't care what you all think... but I personally see a collection program and a system to identify a disc in the player as 2 completely different things. So needs to be handled completely different.
This is the last I have to say on the subject. | | | Pete |

They are two different things, but for both, people paid to get correct information from them. You want to get this correct information from Gracenotes, and this is the reason why you opened this thread, and, on another side, you work hard to keep errors in Dvdprofiler (and even to introduce, in cast lists, errors that do not exist in credits). I understand that you do not want to say more on this subject, since your position must be hard to explain... | | | Images from movies |

| Posted: | | | | You seem to hate the fact that I don't agree with your solution on the matters you mention. On most these matters I feel the only correct way to fix the problem is with a program change... not a rules change. So it is in Ken's court not ours. I can't help that you don't like that opinion. But I am not going to change that opinion just because some people don't like it. | | | Pete |

No need to change the program to get an overview matching the movie on the dvd. "Recopy the overview exactly" is a rule, not imposed by the program. And this rule is stupid for several reasons: - if you want to track errors, this is already done by the back cover scan. - we correct cover data in case of error in aspect ratio or lenght of the movie, why not for overview ? - wrong data in overviews kills possibilities to search by keywords. And do not say me that rules are Invelos' ones. You know perfectly that they were made by users and validated by Invelos. In certain cases, we got clarifications by Invelos ( here is one by Gerri) that unpleased some users who screamed to obtain a new position, and frequently Ken accepted, overruling Gerri. And in this case, you were the first to approve Ken, writing one of the most stupid nonsense that I have ever read in all my life, just 7 minutes after he gave his opinion... | | | Images from movies |
