| Posted: | | | | The application has not been updated since 2015. It lack support for UHD (though I see there is a beta with that feature). I was thinking going over to MyMovies because they have an updated desktop application (though not as nice like DVDProfiler).
Also Invelos should think of rebranding the application name. DVD is so in the past. Movie Profiler (or Media Profiler) would suit it much better. | | | Last edited: by DJViking |

| Posted: | | | | I have seen that. Still don't explain the 2 year cold freeze of DVD Profiler. Do Invelos think they have a perfect application that no longer needs to be updated.
Also such things like UHD, Dolby Atmos, Dolby Vision, etc. should not require a new version of the application. Such things should be stored within a database of options. |

DVDP has always had long update cycles. We oldies just got used to it. I'm not exactly a young hipster, but still am used to frequent application updates among most of the software I use. Being a Linux user I am perhaps a little more used to frequent software updates. |

Well, so have I. I have been using DVDP to manage my collection for nearly a decade. | | | Last edited: by DJViking |

| Posted: | | | | We are lucky we are getting an update. People buying physical media for movies is going the way of the 8-Track and cassette tape.
I still think Ken screwed up and made mistakes with how he set up the payment structure, giving out lifetime subscriptions. He also failed to come up with a new revenue stream. I'd be happy to pay into some subscription model if it led to certain enhancements. There was talk about DVD Online Plus, but it never materialized for whatever reason.
I also am curious why he didn't try to work into the Digital Copy World, to track online movies, to expand the market. Not sure why he is doing an update now, as I can't imagine there are many collectors out there running to but it if they haven't already.
When Invelos does go down, and I'm sure it will sooner than later, I can still use it to track my profiles, I'll just have to do them myself. Which in my case, living in Canada, I probably do half of them myself from scratch already. | | | HDTV: 52" Toshiba Regza 52XV545U AVR: Onkyo TR-707 Speakers: Paradigm Monitor 7 v6, CC-190 & Atom Monitors Subwoofer: Definitive Technology ProSub 800 BD/DVD: Oppo BDP-93 (Region Free) HD PVR: Motorola DXC3400 500GB w/ 1TB Expander BD/DVD/Game: 250GB PS3 Slim DVD/Game: 250GB XBox 360 Elite Special Edition (Black) Game: Wii Remote: Logitech Harmony One w/ PS3 Adapter WHS: Acer H341 Windows Home Server |

| Posted: | | | | I really second some form of subscription payment, BUT:
- imagine the loud cry from those who (rightfully so) don't - I would expect MUCH, MUCH shorter update cycles
I really hope that this can be done some way or the other, as I personally want changes/additions way much quicker. |

It could be tied to a price tracker to encourage people to use it. |

Subscription has been talked about before, with some of the originals stating that they wouldn't pay and would quit using the program - that means we would lose about 10 profile contributions a year and no more forum hens sitting around waiting to belittle new users questions. I'm all for a monthly subscription. | | | Last edited: by ateo357 |

| Posted: | | | | I'd vote for a yearly subscription...if updates were a little more often than every two years. I'd also like to see an updated product name. Perhaps Movie Profiler, as already suggested. | | | Just in from somewhere left of the middle of nowhere The Holy See Hell |

| Posted: | | | | I think to pay for one year of minor updates is fine, and then purchase for every major updates.
It is difficult to do when there are so many lifetime subscribers, but Invelos could do as MyMovies did. They created a new Android application and abandoned the old but still useable application. Also perhaps open for donations from its users who like to contribute more to its development.
There are a few applications that provide media collection management. There is Invelos DVD Profiler, My Movies, Collectorz, All My Movies, and there is bluray.com, but which only has an mobile application. There are options, but I like the design of DVD Profiler much better than the alternatives. I have used both this and My Movies. At one time I was thinking of creating my own application, but I don't want that hassle.
I think movies on physical format will still be with us for the foreseeable future. Streaming does not offer enough content to warrant abandoning physical formats, and purchasing a digital copy is not of the same quality as a physical Bluray. I have bought a few digital movies on Google, only because the price was cheap, but its quality cannot measure up to Bluray. What can we really expect from a HD movies on Google that is only 500MB to 1GB. |

| Posted: | | | | ... lets face it overall ., DVD sales are pretty well dead .. and blue ray / the new 4K dvd's are mainly sold if the price comes down after a few months/ years ., ( just picked up Blue Ray - 2 disc of Apocalypse Now for $4.88 plus ship ). . and of course there are no rental stores stores in your city to drive to and rent and drop off later .. BUT with streaming at $4.99 HD and buying that same HD title streamed to your home to capture and store on your PC for $24.99 compared to some titles at $39.99 street date and then drop in price over the months .
This is all to combat Bit torrents, that practice is halted with the studios agreeing to release their titles day and date to cable companys or Webiste such as apple and amazon ( but not Netflicks, ,they have to wait a few months unless it is of their own Original broadcasting and even then those original titles do not have any other place to be you cannot buy on blue ray or dvd one of Netflicks original broadcasts ..
yes,, The new Norm and successful one is the advent of streaming your Ip provider offers a fully full range of new titles with street date the same as disc street date ( a few years back the date was anywhere up to three months behind street, as the studios and the Blockbusters of the time did not want any conflcits to offset their rentals. ) and of course Netflicks and especially Itunes and Amazon have a complete catalogue of titles dating back to the 30's to either stream to your device or your ap o n your Big Screen wifi ready TV .. you can buy or rent the title for a certain period of time usually 48 hours .. and now also Netflicks can download your movie to your Ipad or phone and you can watch as many as your device can hold up at the cabin or in an area that has no Wifi .. this can save you a lot of money as wifi streaming can and will eat up all your data with video audio playback ..
so what does all this have to do with Invelos ? I don't see nay where here on Invelos Profile where you would want to or could store your viewing movies.. Sure I would like to be able to store my latest streamed copy of Florence Foster Jenkins but the data won't support it .. I stream and I watch but I don't rent or buy the disc.. If I want to know in a year from now what (i.e.) Streep movies I have seen or not seen - that information comes in very hand with a program like DVD profiler .. I have to download an existing version of (i.e.) Jenkins ( disc upc/code) keep it in my wish column and the studios listed- I create another 'studio' such as Netflicks or 'Shaw ON Demand' ( my ip provider) so I know months from now,, if needed, when did I see it? and how? . ( date and stream device) ..
I prefer the hard copy in my hand and most often the supplementary/ second audio commentary materials are only available on the hard set..
say all this ..... this I believe , is why Profiler is slow to upgrade their software.. I do believe that membership to our club has decreased drastically over the past two years because of today's new technology & medium ...

| Posted: | | | | DVD Profiler isn't dead or hibernating as far as I'm concerned. It does a more than respectful job of cataloging my physical DVD and Blu-ray collection and will continue to do so, irrespective of what updates may or may not come in the future. I also have no interest in digital downloads. I own 4,193 DVD's and Blu-ray's and have yet to redeem a single digital download. For those that find value in digital downloads knock yourself out. Color me not interested. I have no interest in purchasing and cataloging digital downloads and no interest in discussions about digital downloads quite frankly. | | | My DVD/Blu-ray Collection |

| Posted: | | | | Glad to see the dedication.. to buying.. If half the people like yourself did so on a weekly basis Blockbusters would still be around.. and streaming an after thought. Most people like myself will not buy on title unseen and if it is good enough to own.. will buy after I watch/rent (stream) . but not till I look at the performance of a 'said automobile ' till I take it around the block a couple times ..
I was only contributing to the thread as a possible reason why DVD's on its these days are on their way out .. therefore the program may be waning in popularity and its days may be numbered ..
Hope Not.. Been a valued supporter of all DVD titles and some ownership ownership since 1997 .. I may only have an actual title base of only 600 plus titles .. but Not all movies can be watched more than once or twice in 20 years ..
but to have access to that title with Profiler saves me an enormous amount of time where it is located in the cabinet .. I hope Ken does indeed carry on this program .. It is one of two programs I use every day. the other is Google. | | | In the 60's, People took Acid to make the world Weird. Now the World is weird and People take Prozac to make it Normal.
