| Posted: | | | | We have had a few cases where people share the same birth year and only one can be entered with the birth year attached, leaving the other attached to other people that share their name.
So if we could add the complete birth date it would allow two people in the database that shares the same birth year because their complete birth dates would be different.
(On the very rare cases where people share the same birth date, I guess we still have the same problem as before). |

| Posted: | | | | It's only a band-aid. In the end, we'd still need an actual actor/crew section. Every person would get a unique Id just like IMDb does and then people just get assigned to profiles and there they get their credited as name. And their common name is simply determined by the central database through brute force of "most used". But honestly, we've been discussing this for more than a decade now and with every year and the decline of physical media, I very much doubt we'll ever gonna get it. I just need to think about me making this very video 5 years ago, showing a way hwo it could be done within the realm of DVD Profiler's structure: | | | Karsten DVD Collectors Online

| Posted: | | | | Yeah, it's a band-aid, but there have been rumors of a change in the cast/crew database system for what seems like years.
This could be achieved probably quite simply. Perhaps just expanding the birth year from 4 digits to 8 digits, so that a birth date could be entered.
Something like 01051984 would equate to a January 5, 1984 birth date. |

That statement just caught my attention. So here's some fun trivia for your Friday. You only need to gather 23 people together before the odds of at least two people sharing a birthday are greater than 50%. In other words, get 23 people together and you're more likely to find two people sharing a birthday than not. If you can get 70 people together, your odds that two people share the same birthday are 99%. To hit 100%, you need 367 people (accounting for a leap year). It's the Birthday problem. | | | Get the CSVExport and Database Query plug-ins here. Create fake parent profiles to organize your collection. | | | Last edited: by Mark Harrison |
